Digital immigrants - As Digital Immigrants learn – like all immigrants, some better than others – to adapt to their environment, they always retain, to some degree, their "accent," that is, their foot in the past.
Contextualized language samples - type of context allows them to make inferences about the language
Contextualized learning environment - the multimedia combines audio, video, pictures, and text in new ways that help to create a unique rich learning environment. This type of context allows students to make new combinations for enhanced learning
Context – environment
Chunks - Chunks are groups of words that are learned as an unanalyzed whole. For example, beginning learners often memorize salutations as chunks, that is, without understanding the grammar of these expressions.
Scripts - Scripts involve any cultural behavior that can be broken down into a sequence of events. The classic example of a cultural script is when a person dines in a restaurant: finding a seat, reading the menu, ordering drinks from the waitstaff, etc. Language learning needs to include cultural scripts since these scripts regulate how a speaker will use the target language in real world situations.
Any written or spoken language that the learner encounters that may be used to construct linguistic knowledge. "Good" input is said to be comprehensible and meaning-bearing. People who interact with learners often modify their speech to facilitate learner comprehension by simplifying the input for the learner.
Intake is the input that is comprehended and that impacts the learner's developing linguistic system. It is important to keep in mind that much input that the learner is exposed to is not comprehended and therefore unable to affect the learner's system.

They select the background, the clothing, eye color, hair color and shape, and accessories. They record their voices either directly on the website or with the voice recorder on the computer. They may also call Voki and record from their phone. Students send their Vokis to the teacher who may post them on a blog, wiki, or website.
What is Voki? Voki enables users to express themselves on the web in their own voice using a talking character. You can customize your Voki to look like you or take on the identity of lots of other types of characters… animals, monsters, anime etc. Your Voki can speak with your own voice which is added via microphone, upload, or phone. Voki lives on your blog, social network profile and will soon be integrated in various instant messaging platforms. You will also be able to download it to most video supported phones.
What's with the name? Voki is a combination of "vox", which is Latin for voice, and "Loki", which, is a prankster character in Norse Mythology.
Who made Voki? Voki is brought to you by the folks at Oddcast, a New York based company that has been creating speaking characters on the web for years. These are the same people behind the popular Careerbuilder Monk-e-mail.
Will Voki always be free? Yes, you will always be able to come and create a character for free at Voki. However, we may offer special items or characters for sale at some point. Also some of the things you can do with your Voki, like downloading it to your phone, may cost money. It is also likely that you will see different kinds of sponsorship on the site. No matter what we do to make money through Voki, we'll make sure we keep you in the loop, get your feedback, and try not to do anything that makes Voki less entertaining to have.
