3. Goal of the IWRM Knowledge Centers
initiative
To connect those who can provide knowledge with those
who need knowledge.
Expand and promote the use of the IWRM Toolbox in
university education, training and research institutions;
illustrate application of the IWRM Toolbox for training and
capacity building programs.
6. Strengths of IWRM Toolbox in university
education
Lots of knowledge resources in Toolbox, already
classified according to different themes/topics.
The IWRM Toolbox is simple and straight forward,
easy to use.
The IWRM Toolbox provides a good example for
multiple disciplines and for easy integration of sectors.
There are already examples of how resources can be
used in a teaching environment.
7. Weaknesses of IWRM Toolbox and
improvements required
Most of the case studies are not peer reviewed;
making it a supplementary source for teaching.
Indigenous knowledge systems are not well
documented as case studies in the IWRM Toolbox.
Case studies regional balance: in terms of numbers
some regions have few case studies.
8. Recommendations
The Toolbox can be used as supplementary sources rather
than as the main source of information for universities.
The Toolbox should become a learning/discussion forum.
Introductory presentations at universities about the IWRM
Toolbox every start of a semesters.
Peer reviewed case studies should be highlighted.
More tools could be added and the integration of sector tools,
e.g. agriculture, forestry, urban and rural development.
Need to add glossary of terms.
