8. TCM Operations
• Plant in operation 24 hours a day, year round – similarly to a
production plant
– Each shift consists of 6 operators
• 2 persons/shift/area
– Amine and chilled ammonia plant
& utillities
• 3 control rooms - one per area
9. Testing activities at the Amine Plant
• Initial test period for 15 months with Aker Clean Carbon
• Focus on;
• process performance, mainly energy efficiency
- steam and electricity consumption
• solvent degradation
• emissions monitoring.
• Baseline study with MEA solvent to validate
simulation model as well as providing a base
case for future vendors.
Goal: Establish an energy efficient process and to mitigate risks when implementing a full-scale Carbon Capture Unit
11. Testing activities at the Chilled Ammonia Plant
• Initial period of 13months (+ optional 6 months)
based on test program developed by Alstom.
• Focus on;
• process optimization, energy efficiency,
ammonia consumption and low emissions
• steady state and transient operations
• impact of flue gas impurities.
Goal: Establish an energy efficient process and to mitigate risks when implementing a full-scale Carbon Capture Unit
12. • CAP started in november
• Established rapidly stable operations
• Some disruptions related to
equipment
• Shut down for modifications to
improve performance
• Full-scale Technology qualification

Utilization of avaliable site
18. • TCM has taken the initiative to form an international test centre network for carbon
capture test facilities around the world to share knowledge to accelerate the
commercialisation of technology.
• The key aims of the CCS Test Centre Network are to share knowledge of technological
developments, construction and operational experience, establish performance
indicators, and promote technology standardization.
• Overall the network will establish a level playing field for technology vendors to reduce
costs, plus technical, environmental and financial risks associated with CCS.
CCS Test Center Network
19. • Helps to make connections, capture of lessons and knowledge creation
• Respects IP
• Has prioritized common sharing themes
• Works with a mix of face-to-face and on-line sharing activities
• Has a common identity
• Has a mandated contact for each member, with a rotating coordinator
• May have bi-lateral sharing arrangements
• Is supported (e.g. meeting facilitation, website and content collation)

Testing at the TCM Amine Plant will initially be based on a test program from Aker Solutions (AS), where AS will test their proprietary solvents for a time period of 15 months. Later other vendors will use the facility. Focus is on process performance, mainly energy efficiency - steam and electricity consumption - and emissions monitoring. The amine plant has several hundred online instruments monitoring the plant performance and emissions. In addition, an extensive lab programme has been developed with focus on monitoring solvent performance, degradation and emissions to air and water. The lab data, as well as isokinetic sampling and third party verification measurements will back up the online metering to enhance monitoring of a wide range of emissions components. TCM DA and AS will in a combined effort strive to identify synergies in solvent performance and plant operation to obtain an energy efficient process and minimise emissions to air and water.
The initial tests are based on the program developed by Alstom, the owner of the IPR. Focus is on process optimization, including: energy efficiency (steam and electricity consumption), ammonia consumption and low emissions, steady state and transient operations, impact of flue gas impurities. The Chilled Ammonia Plant allows a large flexibility for testing various absorbers design. Comprehensive online instruments ensure monitoring of the plant performance and emissions. The solvent developed by Alstom do not produce degradation products and is based on a low cost and available solvent. This design allow the development of reliable simulation tools, based on the tests, for calculation of the heat and mass balances. Lab data, as well as isokinetic sampling and third party verification measurements will back up the online metering to enhance monitoring of a wide range of emissions components.
Invitation to vendors and other interested parties to use the existing large scale amine test plant The amine plant can be made available for other users towards the end of 2013/beginning 2014. Invitation to vendors and other interested parties to participate in a negotiated tender process for using the available open slot/land, utilities and other infrastructure Open for acceptance until 31.12.2012 www.tcmda.com/Global/Dokumenter Independent Verification Contractor
