Binge drinking is a term widely used, but people tend to have quiet different understandings of what that means. Most definitions of binge drinking refer to the act of drinking heavily over a short period of time or drinking continuously over a number of days or weeks. Some common definitions of binge drinking are: drinking to get drunk (‘bender’), occasional bouts of heavy drinking by young and/or non-dependant people, intermittent, or irregular episodes of excessive drinking.

It can lead people to put themselves in dangerous situations. Common short term effects are hangovers, headaches, nausea, shakiness and possible vomiting and memory loss. LONG TERM EFFECTS If someone drinks heavily over a long period of time, they can become physically and psychologically dependant upon alcohol. Their body gets used to functioning with alcohol present and drinking can become more important then other activities in their life. Over time alcohol can damage parts of the body, including the brain or liver. There are also the risks of developing emotional problems, such as depression, and problems at school, work and with relationships. Other effects of binge drinking can include unwanted pregnancy, feeling bad about yourself afterwards ( such as shame or embarrassment )

Youth under 18 is continually increasing to become one of the main trends towards being the highest age group that suffer from alcohol poisoning, which in turn, damages your main organs such as your liver and your heart. This is therefore increasing the death toll of youth and unfortunately the adults are continuing to set awful examples by showing that shredding all responsibilities from yourself by getting drunk is the way to go on with in life. Alcohol , as quoted, is normally tried at home, surrounded by parents and, obviously elevates in to youth believing their bodies are fully prepared for the pain of alcohol effects. The impact of alcohol on youth has proven to be massive and continues to change the face of youth, not only in Australia, but all areas of the world.

We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good. If life and physical health is a gift from God and something that is precious then all human beings have the responsibility to nurture life and look after their health. This does not mean that human beings should not consume alcohol, but rather if they choose to consume alcohol, they should do so taking the following into consideration: That alcohol is a drug, alcohol can cause dependence, alcohol has effects on ones body, alcohol can cause harm, it relaxes an individual, causes you to lose ambitions and is a socially acceptable part of society. Alcohol is something that we use if we choose, but we must make sure we know our limits and its effects on us. Everyone is different, some can tolerate alcohol and others can’t.
