2. The Present Simple
It’s used to express facts, habits, in newspaper
headlines or dates of transport means.
Examples :
They usually go to club. (habit)
The sun sets at the west. ( fact)

3. Forms and Signs of Present Simple
With singular pronouns we put (s) with regular verbs.
Example:
He works She cooks
With verbs that end with (sh – ss – ch – o – x – z ) we put (es) at the end
of the verb.
Example: passes – crosses – boxes – goes
With verbs end with (y) and before it a consonant letter, we change it to
(ies)
Example: carry- carries, try- tries
He/ She/ It / singular Pronoun : s – es – ies
They/ We/You/I : Infinitive
4. Signs of Present Simple
Examples:
He usually studies the reports in the evening.
Wood floats on water.
If he goes abroad he will meet my uncle.
sometimes – often – usually – rarely – always – every – generally – on (days) –
in ( seasons) – occasionally .
5. Negation in Present Simple
We use (never) with signs of this tense.
Example:
He usually behaves carelessly He never behaves carelessly.
Also we use (don’t- with plural) and ( doesn’t with singular).
Example:
Engineers prospect for oil Engineers don’t prospect for
oil.
A scientist makes experiments A scientist doesn’t make
experiments .
6. Interrogative
We use (do – with plural) and (does – with singular).
Example:
They live in Cairo Do they live in Cairo?
He works as a professor Does he work as
a professor?
