4. When is it set?
Eastenders is set in the present. It is an on going soap which runs along side our daily
lives. It becomes part of our cultural psyche, because they are repeated so often. They

From the music what do we assume about the lifestyles of the characters?
Storylines are relatable – audiences can watch and
understand what is happening, and empathises with
characters. The dull slow music connotes that their
lifestyle. Its boring, slow, and depressing. By having a
grey flitter over the camera it makes the characters
lives look even more dull.
