CURRICULAR STATEMENT: To identifying the importance of kuttanad the 
agricultural field of Kerala. 
CONTENT ANALYSIS: 
[FACTS] 
· The cultivation was taking place once in two or three years 
· They cultivating seels of paddy like chambavu and karrutha chara 
· Water wheels were used for draining water from paddy fields 
· The black soil of kuttanad is sutable for the cultivation of paddy 
· Janmi kudian system was followed the kuttanad 
· Janmi kudian relation was based on cast system 
· All the janmis had adiyalar were called onapanikkar 
· It was through vempanad lake that the transporting of the trade took 
place

To day we used modern technique in cultivation do 
you know any traditional method of cultivation? 
Ok to mday we are going to study about the traditional 
method of cultivation in kuttanad. 
DEVELOPMENT 
Traditional method of agriculture in kuttanad 
The main occupationof people of kuttanad is 
agriculture the cultivation was taking place once in to 
two or three years.they cultivating seeds nof paddy like 
champaru and karuthachara,these seeds take time to 
grow and harrest.

Today we are using pumps sets for draining the paddy 
field .do you know which technique is used in ancient 
times for draining waters 
Teachers show the picture of waterwheel and 
explaine.prior to the arrival of the present pumpsets 
,waterwheels were used for drainig water from paddy 
field 
WATTER WHEELS[BB] 
It is very difficult for farmers for operating water 
wheels .they worked on the weal for long hoarse in 
order to avouid the monotony of operating the 
waterwheel they would sing song

Today we use pesticides to avoid pests but in the earlier 
day the cultivation do not use pesticides they used some 
technique .one of the important technique used by the 
kuttanad people is wormbasket 
WORM 
BASKET 
It means the pests gathered in the sprouted seeds are 
beaten with a broom stick and gathered in a basket called 
worm basket 
Do you know which soil is suitable for paddy 
cultivation in kuttanad ? 
Yes black soil is sutabile for the cultivation of paddy 
fertility of the soil was multiplied by the organise waste

In kuttanad a strong janmi kudian system was exisisted 
.the system was based on caste system.all the janmis 
adiyalar and they were known as onapanikar. 
The adiyalar or the agriculture labour received paddy 
and money in advance and this practice was known as 
velakkadom.

Teacher divided the student in to two groups and gave 
them name. then ask them to discuss the factors that 
encouraged farmers to face adverse circumstances for 
cultivation .teacher gave activity card to students

Silt deposited fllodal system 
Group 1 : the fertile black soil which persuaded farmer 
to began paddy cultivation in kuttanad 
The sit deposit by the revier 
Group 2 : strong janmikudiyan system fourced the 
people to encage in agriculture 
No oher occupation was possible there as the area is 
usually flood in raing season 
CONSOLIDATION 
With the support of bb work teacher explained the
