3. The Syrah grape is thick-skinned and nearly
black in color. The vines bud late, but they
ripen by mid-season. While Syrah grapes
require heat to fully ripen, if they become even
slightly overripe, their varietal character can be
lost.
4. Syrah wine is generally spicier than it is fruity,
quite intense and lavish, with pronounced
leather, nut, blackberry, earth, and pepper
tones. Once bottled, this wine can age for
decades. Its substantial earthy flavor makes it a
great pairing with nearly all grilled and
peppered meats, wild game, and any foods that
are strongly seasoned with aromatic herbs.
5. Dr. Gary Cecchi co-founded Grey Fox
Vineyards in 1996. The Grey Fox Syrah is fullbodied, fruity, and very smooth and has won
medals at the Dallas International Wine
Competition as well as the Wines of the World
Competition at the L.A. County Fair. Dr.
Cecchi recommends the Grey Fox 2003 fullbodied Syrah to any aficionado looking for
intense, smooth flavor.
