17 year-old Trayvon Martin was shot by George
Zimmerman at the gated community in Sanford
Florida on February 26, 2012.
Zimmerman is a 28 year-old multiracial Hispanic
American, who was the neighborhood watch
coordinator of that same community as Martin’s.
Zimmerman saw Martin, at his own private time,
walking around the community and walking in
between houses. He decided to call the police.

Zimmerman reports Martin’s suspicious behavior.
He told the police that he was going to follow him
and concluded the phone call.
Zimmerman shot Martin, who was unarmed. As the
police arrived at the scene, Zimmerman told them he
shot Martin because he had attacked him and he
shot Martin out of self defense.

edited “Today” show clip of
George Zimmerman’s 911 call.

NBC's "Today" show first aired the edited version of
Zimmerman's call on March 27. The edited clip was
trimmed to suggest that Zimmerman volunteered to
police, with no prompting, that Martin was black: "This
guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black.“
But the portion of the tape that was deleted had the 911
dispatcher asking Zimmerman if the person who had
raised his suspicion was "black, white or Hispanic," to
which Zimmerman responded, "He looks black."
6. Issues
From NBC reporter’s actions, this made the public
see Zimmerman as a racist.
Through this edited clip, this had raised more social
issues of racism.

NBC apologized to their viewers, they admitted that
their was an error in the clip.
