Mission and Objectives of WP5



     Mission:
        Visualizing and accessing the heterogeneous processes and data in
          the entire policy lifecycle design
     Objectives:
        Enhancement of the visualization framework as a fundament for
          interfacing and providing modularity
        Supporting of adaptable and adaptive visualizations and user
          interfaces for a human-centered visual interaction with the
          complex policy processes
        Development of visualizations as key components integrated in the
          framework and supporting the FUPOL Core Platform
        Providing visual support of the heterogeneous level of users’
          expertise
        Developing a set of semantics visualizations for accessing and
          interacting with the complex data and policy processes

Task 5.1: Visual Policy Lifecycle-Modeling
    Framework (I)



     Design and development of an adaptable and adaptive visualization-
      and interaction framework:

          Providing interfaces to the Fupol Core Platform
          Providing interfaces between visualizations and interaction
           modules developed in WP5
          Providing application interfaces for interacting and (visual)
           integrating of Fupol components and user interfaces
          Supporting of adaptability and adaptation for the visual
           components
          Supporting heterogeneous data formats as core technology

Task 5.2: User Adaptation (I)



     Design and development of concepts adapting the components to
      users’ requirements
        Users’ pre-knowledge and expertise (novice to expert)
        Data characteristics and structure (Quantitative, Ordinal)
        Current activity and process support

     Composition of visualizations and user interface components as
      visualization cockpits
     Recommendation of a “best-fit” user interface based on current activity
     Support of the framework functionalities (Task 5.1)

Task 5.3: Visual Simulation Support



     Design and development of interactive application interfaces especially
      for the integration of the Fupol simulation software
        Interfacing to simulation software
        Visual integration of the simulation software
        Support of interaction with the simulation software (UI-Mashup)

Task 5.4: Visual Collaboration Environment
    (I)


     Design and Development of social data- and networks visualizations for
      supporting collaboration (Web 2.0)

     Based on WP3 to
        support managing the stakeholders’ collaboration
        facilitate the analysis of stakeholder collaboration for e.g. policy
          requirements elicitation

     Existing social network technologies will be investigated and integrated
      to support the visualization of the networks with semantics
      visualizations (multichannel social computing)

Task 5.5: Policy Lifecycle-Modeling Process
    Visualization (I)


     Design and development of heterogeneous visualizations for supporting
      user in the Policy Lifecycle-Modeling Process:
        Decision making
        Information finding
        Policy retrieving
        Policy life-cycle understanding
     Development of three “classes” of visualizations:
        Semantics visualization
        Policy Lifecycle visualization
        Geographical Visualization (GIS)

Task 5.5: Policy Lifecycle-Modeling Process
    Visualization (III)


     Semantics visualizations are used to model
      and visualize the semantic aspects of the
      FUPOL model

     By orchestration with simulations and other
      types of visual representations, the
      information can be presented more effective

     In FUPOL, the visualizations are investigating:
        time-dependent and variable models
        support of decision making
        support of information finding
