- Yorimoto became Shogun in 1192
- He established a new system of government, called the
Kamakura Bakfu
- This government was a lot simpler compared to the older
system
3. • The Shoganate system of government was a feudal
military dictatorship with the emperor as the leader
• The heads of the government were called Shoguns
• The first three Shoguns were members of the Minamoto
Clan
• The last six Shoguns were minor Imperial princes
• The Shoguns lived in the capital of Japan (at that time),
Kamakura, Kanagawa
4. • In 1274 and 1281 the Mongols invaded Japan
• The Mongols came from Central and North Asia
• During the invasions the Japanese were aided with major
storms which weakened the Mongols fleet considerably
• The Mongol invasions are a early example of gunpowder
warfare.
