Social Media Marketing for freelancers
Most of you are probably familiar with social media marketing
and its benefits. It is, indeed, an extremely convenient way to
get your message out there, providing wide reach and spreading
fast at the same time. Marketing is vital to a freelancer success,
and social media is probably one of the best ways to show your
clients that you’re ready to go and what you’re made of. Here
are a couple of things you should keep in mind when marketing
your services via social media.
1. Utilize multiple channels (1/2)
First and foremost, social media stands for more than just
Facebook. While the site is great and making a business profile
there could have lots of benefits, you should not neglect other
social media sites. Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, among others,
can be great marketing tools as well. You should first think about
what suits you most – this depends on what exactly you are
trying to sell, but where you think potential clients might be
hanging out as well.
1. Utilize multiple channels (2/2)
Pinpointing the best kinds of social media you want to use would
be great, but diversifying it up and using multiple channels won’t
hurt as well. So try different things in order to determine which
ones are best for you, but don’t make the mistake of just
focusing on one media, because you will be missing out on
opportunities. Furthermore, putting your eggs in one basket is
never a good idea, just look at what happened to MySpace.
2. Stay active
Next thing that is pretty intuitive but some people tend to
neglect is to stay active in your social media marketing. This is
crucial for building up a base of people that pay attention to
what you do. Post frequently, but make sure the posts are
meaningful and display your motivation and skill. You can share
projects you have completed; this is an excellent way to let
prospective clients see the quality of your work. Neglecting
frequent updates, because you are doing well for yourself and
have a lot of projects lined up is one of the most frequent
marketing mistakes freelancers make. Marketing needs to be
done at good times as well as bad, convincing others of your
enthusiasm.
3. Build connections with your clients (1/2)
As a freelancer, your clients are one of the most important
assets you have. The most solid way to keep them is to
communicate with them and build a professional connection,
based on trust. If clients like you and know they can count on
you, it is very likely that you will be the one who gets that next
project or gets recommended to a partner. So make sure you
interact with your clients through social media, answer any
questions they might have, engage in discussion and earn their
respect.

When utilizing social media marketing, you don’t just want to be
a commercial. You shouldn’t just focus on selling your product.
Building up brand awareness, keeping your clients close to you
and leaving a good impression with your social media activity are
all long-term steps, which will pave your way to success.
