John Alvin was an American Cinematic artist who
had designed some of the most recognizable movie

8. Work
This was the poster design for Mel
Brooks in 1974 that gave him his big
break , this poster design led him to
creating posters for films such as :
- Young Frankenstein

- ET
9. Work
John Alvin had got this design idea
from the director Steven Spielberg ,
and was inspired by Michelangelo's
painting , The Creation of Adam.
This Design was the most important to
him , as he had used his daughters hand
for human model within the poster.
10. Process
He preferred to work in a range
of mix media on his poster
designs
Would start off by just creating
a range of different designs
which would then lead on to a
final piece.
13. Disney
Most of the posters that John Alvin had created
were for Disney as the advertising directors thought
that the only reason films such as The Lion King and
The Hunchback of Notre Dame got the numbers ,
was due to the images that John Alvin Produced.
Disney : "Alvin brings emotion into his artwork that
can only be captured in an illustration. We call it
'Alvinizing'."
14. Fine Art
After working on posters for the majority of his
career , John Alvin started to lean towards fine Art
due to new forms of advertising being introduced
such as : Internet Campaigns
And so he started to create fine art centered on
movies artistically instead of advertising
16. Design Hero
The reason he is one of my Design Heroes is because
he inspires me to go and create using a range of ideas
and to think creatively using a variety of medias.
What makes him an ideal Design Hero for me is that he
had worked in the two different industries I want to
break into , which are : Film and Advertising
looking at his work has allowed me to follow similar
processes and I am able to view the range of layouts
and typefaces he had used within his poster designs to
give me inspiration.
