Germany is #1 in the world for percentage of paying gamers. Germany is Europe’s largest games market in terms of revenues generated. It ranks first in the world based on payer/player ratio, with 70% of all gamers paying for games,. China (65%) is ranked second and the UK (62%) third. Although boasting the highest percentage of paying gamers, Germany comes in at number 4 on the global revenue rankings, behind the #1 US, #2 China and #3 Japan. With 80% of 39.8 million German gamers, online social/casual games form the most popular market segment followed by PC/Mac and smartphone gaming. 16.8% of the German gamers play on all four screens: the Computer, Personal, Floating and Entertainment Screen. The Computer Screen is relatively popular in Germany with 92.7% of all gamers playing on it. Although quite a lot of the German gamers play on the personal screen/smartphone (68.7%) – the adoption of tablet gaming is still falling behind and this is one of the reasons that the floating screen (30.8%) is relatively unpopular in Germany. This slow adoption of tablet gaming is further highlighted in the app store game revenues country rankings, with Germany scoring low in the iPad chart at position #8, significantly behind Russia for example. Also worth noting is the relatively high ranking of Germany in the monthly game revenues of the Google Play Store. In this ranking, typically dominated by Asian countries – Germany is at number 4. The first three positions are taken by Japan, Korea and the US. In the iPhone ranking Germany is holding position number 7. Except for the iPad where Clash of Clans brings in most of the money – Candy Crush Saga is the top grossing game in the German AppStores.
