The document discusses Oracle's strategy and datacenter trends. It summarizes Oracle's engineered systems which integrate hardware and software, including Exadata, Exalogic, Exalytics and SPARC SuperCluster. It also discusses 10 trends in the datacenter market, such as growth in integrated systems in enterprises, cloud service providers driving demand for homogenous systems, and the emergence of solid-state optimized datacenters. Oracle's strategy is to provide complete customer choice and a complete stack through its engineered systems approach.
4 new products have joined Exadata and Exalogic in the Engineered Systems family. These new products adhere to the same technology principles as Exadata and Exalogic, and extend the Engineered Systems’ value proposition. We have been in this business delivering Engineered Systems since 2008 with the introduction of Exadata followed closely by Exalogic. The success of these products has been trulyamazing – outpacing even our goals for adoption. We have over 1200 systems sold to date and expect that number to be 4000 later this year. Exalogic has already surpassed Exadata as the fastest growing product in Oracle’s history and the demand for our new products leads us to believe we will see even greater adoption of our products as they were designed to be “Better Together”.With all of our products the deployment time is minimized, manageability is maximized, the lowest total cost of ownership in comparison to our competitors is delivered to you, implementation risk is minimized, and as always you have one single point of contact for support. These core principles apply to our existing products, our new products, and will certainly apply to the innovation we continue to deliver.

Engineered Systems hardware & support for a monthly feeOracle IaaS extends Cloud offerings by providing Engineered System hardware deployed on-premise for a monthly fee. Oracle IaaS provides many of the advantages of cloud computing like pay-as-you-go pricing (OPEX vs. APEX), elastic scalability on-demand, and greatly reduced management of hardware infrastructure.Systems eligible for IaaS include: Exadata (except for 1/8 Rack) Exadata Storage Expansion Racks ExalogicSPARC SuperClusterExalyticsSun ZFS Storage ApplianceOn PremiseSince Oracle IaaS is deployed on premise, behind the customer’s firewall, customers get the highest level of control and security, enabling them to configure their system to comply with internal or regulatory requirements.Elastic Compute Capacity on Demand (CoD)Oracle IaaS also offers Elastic Compute Capacity on Demand which allows customers to elastically scale environments up and down:For handling peak workloadsCoD cores are either all enabled or all disabled togetherCannot enable just a subset of cores in the systemFor High AvailabilityIf a node fails, CoD cores can be enabled to replace the failed cores at no charge until the failed node is repairedOne of the key advantages is that customers only pay for the months when the CoD core are enabled.NOTE: Capacity on Demand (CoD) IS available for Exadata, Exalogic, Exalytics and SPARC SuperCluster but IS NOT available for Exadata Storage Expansion Racks and Sun ZFS Storage Appliance.Oracle Platinum and PlatinumPlus ServicesLastly, to ensure the highest level of reliability, security, and performance, Oracle IaaS includes advanced support services at no extra cost: NOTE: Platinum and PlatinumPlus Services ARE available for Exadata (including Exadata Storage Expansion Racks), Exalogic, and SPARC SuperCluster but ARE NOT available for Exalytics or Sun ZFS Storage Appliance.Platinum ServicesEnhanced support levels: 5 Minute Fault Notification 15 Minute Restoration or Escalation to Development 30 Minute Joint Debugging with Development Oracle Engineers perform quarterly patching and updates including database patchingPlatinumPlus ServicesAdvanced Reliability, Security, and Performance Services Quarterly automated assessmentsof Oracle IaaS systems Identify system performance issues, security and compliance issues, reliability issues, and deviations from best practices Provide guidance on hot to correct the issues discovered
The Oracle Virtual Networking product family consists of several major elements. the Oracle Fabric Interconnect hardware are shown in two sizes. You can select between the 4U-high system and the 2U-high system; the Oracle SDN software allows you to take servers and bind them to each other using private L2 networks and getting extremely fast speed.
Well, the charter for a Cloud provider is to offer services with minimal disruption. It has been observed across the industry, that a fair share of these disruptions come from mis-configuration and/or missing recommended patches. What we have in Enterprise manager is the ability to integrate with My Oracle Support and leverage the intelligence/knowledge base that has been accumulated from Oracle Support, Engineering and other customers. What we do is use the configuration to provide advisories on missing patches, uncertified configurations or an approaching end-of-life. We also suggest optimal upgrade paths, so that the current patches are preserved across a major upgrade. Finally, not only do we provide proactive advisories for our software layer, we have also put instrumentations in place to capture issues with our hardware and send them over to support before it brings the Cloud to a halt. [Mention “Phone home” as a talking term]
And that approach is to move away from bolt-on and piece meal management, rather embed management into the core solution and deliver a complete, unified, and integrated solution for managing the entire stack. With Oracle Enterprise Manager, you have a single point of control for your entire stack – be it for monitoring health and availability, managing performance or configuration management or automating lifecycle operations such as provisioning and patching. The other important aspect of EM is that it provides unparallel depth when it comes to managing Oracle software. We just don’t believe in building a shallow and bolt-on management solution. Rather we instrument our base products to make sure that the products are designed with manageability in mind and management functionality in EM is built at the same time our core products are created – often by the same developers. This unique approach allows us to deliver you a unique management solution – that is designed from grounds up to reduce complexity, enhance automation and optimize performance and availability.
