3. Jack Binstead is a teenage athlete who
had brittle bone disease. He has
outdone older contemporaries in a
major sporting event during which he
landed on the third spot. It was for
15-17 year-old boys who are
wheelchair-bound. Basically, it is a
wheelchair marathon. This kid is
actually very interesting because, aside
from being a paralympic hopeful, he
also have an acting career. According
to his parents, "This was a really big
one for Jack. He is becoming a man
and he is not a child anymore. He still
beat so many of the older lot in his
category. I am extremely proud of
him."
4. Jack had been in a wheelchair ever since he was three
years old and he has suffered more than 60 broken
bones already. And the interesting thing about it is
that when these broken bones heal, it patched up in a
different position, which means that it can be a high
risk for another fracture.
5. In the marathon that this kid won, the way to his
award was not easy. He actually battled against the
odds to win the London mini-marathon three times;
last year he battled a broken hip to win the
marathon in the 14 and under-age category. And in
2010, he won gold despite his racing through the
pain of a broken hip and in 2008 he finished first
with a broken leg.
