This document analyzes over 34,000 Instagram photos posted by visitors to three major art museums - MoMA, Centre Pompidou, and Tate Modern - to understand how people interact with art in museums. It also looks at over 28,000 Instagram photos tagged with #banksy or #banksyny during Banksy's one month residency in NYC in late 2013 to examine how people engaged with his street art. The data provides insights into how social media is changing how visitors experience and interact with art both in museums and publicly displayed works.
