Chicago Public Schools lacked visibility into its software assets across 130,000 devices, leading to decentralized purchasing and security risks. By using Rationalization Manager to identify 29,000 applications and older versions of Internet Explorer, the school district was able to reduce software purchases, negotiate better contracts, lower cybersecurity risks, and save over 192 staff hours per year. The new insights allowed them to streamline operations and optimize spending.

Commonalities of applications and working with vendors to standardize on applications
Text book vendors have apps
You had Microsoft System Center Config manager, why wasn’t that enough?
SCCM pre-canned reports did not provide what they needed
Manual process was overwhelming
40,000 staff in hundreds of buildings across the district
Asset management: so many assets ,
poor AM tool. Didn’t deliver the insights they needed
Estimated 5,000 apps
Migrating those to Internet Explorer 11
Identified where EOL software was installed and collaborated with the security team to remediate issues and remove.
Inquires for decision making
