Define Health 2.0: companies and products that create adaptable technology, impact on user experience, and are tending to produce/consumer/both lots of data. Tend towards cloud-based, multi-service, mobile over enterprise, but creeping into enterprise.
(blur out some segments?)
When I started Enspektos in 2005, one of my major areas of focus was helping the health industry understand how health technologies like the Web and social media were impacting health consumers. Over this period, we came to see, time and time again, that executives from health organizations shared many common pain points. Connecting the Dots: While it’s important to follow specific events in the health technology arena, understanding where you and your organization can thrive in this fast-moving landscape requires big picture thinking and the ability to connect the dots between micro and macro trends. It’s easy to find information, but harder to receive high-value context. Identifying New Opportunities: We’re operating in a very competitive arena, and those who can identify and leverage new opportunties before others will have more power to understand and shape the future. Shaping Health Consumer Perceptions and Behaviors: For all of us in health, improving outcomes and changing/maintaining health behaviors is the name of the game., We view content as the “last mile” in consumer health technology, as this is the way we educate, encourage and activate people around health and wellness. Understanding and delivering content that’s effective and persuasive is everyone’s job, but it is too often relegated to marketing. When people are having trouble getting people engaged or shaping perceptions, the problems often start and end with content. Accessing Unbiased Expert Insights and Advice: Everyone needs a helping hand, but executives are hard pressed to find safe, private and high-quality forums to exchange ideas and have substantive conversations.
Recognizing these pain points are a problem is one thing. Doing something about them is another. I decided to leverage Enspektos’ technological and intellectual assets to develop a unique member supported consumer health tech and advisory service called. enmoebius bronze.
Now, many of you may be wondering why name a digital health advisory service enmoebius bronze? Well, there is a very good reason for this. Late last year, we introduced a unique technology designed to answer a difficult question: How does digital content (Web, social and mobile) influence how people behave? While we’ve been using the Web (and now social) for quite some time, we still don’t have a solid answer to this critical question. In addition, with a range of consumer-facing technologies being funded, developed and used, answering this question has become even more urgent. This is why we developed enmoebius. This is a behavioral surveillance and analytics platform that delivers never-before-seen insights on how digital health content impacts how people think and act around health. We gather this data by following around people who agree to install the enmoebius software as they go about their daily Web and social media activities. We then collect a massive amount of data about what they do and what they think about the health content they consume. Normally, insights generated by analytics platforms like enmoebius are only available to large organizations. However, we strongly believe that executives in the trenches should have access to the powerful insights generated via this platform, which is why we developed enmoebius bronze. But, what does enmoebius bronze bring to the table that you can’t find elsewhere?
Most importantly, we are very future-oriented. We conduct research with digital health early adopters via a first-of-its kind study called digiheatlh pulse, which is powered by enmoebius. With digihealth pulse we are studying a demographically balanced group of digital health early adopters. We are looking at two things: -How does health content consumed organically via the Web and social media impact how people think and act around health? -How are consumers using/potentially using/viewing a range of emerging technologies, including wearables, sensors and more. These rich and unique dgihealth pulse insights are available to enmoebius bronze subscribers. Now, I’m going to give you a sense of exactly how we’re delivering intelligence that addresses the pain points I outlined earlier, and provide you with a short demo of the service.
When it comes to linking digital health content to behavior change, we have access to (and surface) a massive amount of data gathered via our enmoebius technology. What you see here is a dashboard available to subscribers that features a rich stream of data on how people are using such as Google to find health information, the credibility of social content and much more. Data is constantly flowing into this dashboard and is collected in real-time when digihealth pulse data is being actively collected. We run multiple 8 week waves. The next one is scheduled to begin in late August.
When it comes to charting the future of the consumer health landscape, we leverage a range of data collected from digital health early adopters to help you understand what’s coming and why. This graphic displays a framework we developed to help executives not only understand what technologies consumers will adopt, but why. Understanding why can help you understand which tools will most likely gain traction and shape product development efforts. I’m not going to go into each of these needs in great detail, but they are: -Immediacy-Personalization-Trust-Support
We also leverage our data to identify and explain new trends that may not be immediately apparent to most, but can have a significant impact on how you do business today and in the future. One recently widely-covered insight we published is related to a trend we identified called “just-in-time health information.” Today, people use Google to find health information, However, companies like Scanadu and Medivizoar are developing what we call just-in-time health information systems that not only deliver information when it’s most needed, but also can predict when content should arrive in order to optimize behavior change activities.
Finally, we’re all about not just delivering information we think is important, but responding to your needs. enmoebius bronze subscribers have access to expert collaboration and connection opportunities with noted health technology experts, including Dr. Jennifer Shine Dyer and Health 2.0 analysts. Also, our research and insights agenda is shaped by members’ requests. Via the service you can get answers to questions you care about.
Now, I’d like to take you through a brief demo of the service so that you can see how we present and provide our insights first hand.
