This document provides an overview of copyright, fair use, and plagiarism. It discusses that copyright is a legal protection that promotes progress in arts and sciences by protecting creators' exclusive rights to their work for their lifetime plus 70 years. Fair use is an exception that allows use of copyrighted works without permission if the use is deemed "fair" based on four factors. Plagiarism is presenting another's work as one's own without proper attribution. It encourages properly citing sources to avoid plagiarism accusations that can result in sanctions like reduced grades or suspension.

Otherwise, you have to ask authors/

Factors
"purpose and character of the use" - is the use commercial
nature or nonprofit/educational!
"nature of the copyrighted work" - is it a creative work? is
it unpublished?!
"amount and substantiality" of the part used vs. the entire
copyrighted work!
Market effect - "effect of the use upon the potential
market...of the copyrighted work" (section 107 of copyright
law)

complicated legal issue
