2. THE PLANET
SATURN:
Saturn is probably
best known and most
beautiful planet in
the Solar System.
Although not the
only one to have
rings, has a set of
rings much more
extensive and more
easily visible than
that of any other
planet. This ring
system is what makes
Saturn so beautiful.
Saturn is the second bigest planet in the solar system with a diameter of
120.000 kilometers. Its orvita around the sun takes thirty years. Its distance
from the sun is ten times more distant than the Earth. The shape of the
planet is an oblate spheroid with a polar diameter about ten percent lower than
that of Ecuador
3. Saturn is the true Lord of the
Rings in the Solar System. It is
the sixth planet from the Sun.
The best known peculiarity of
Saturn, as already said, is to be
surrounded by a ring system,
discovered in 1610 by Galileo,
using one of the first telescopes.
Saturn is the least dense of the
planets, its average density is
only 0.7 times that of water.
Saturn is made mostly of light
elements hydrogen and helium.

At its center is thought to have a core of rocky material of a size close to Earth,
but denser. Around this is a region composed of hydrogen and liquid helium, with a
gaseous atmosphere of about 1,000 km thick, which are the cloud structures that
look like the planet's surface. For many years thought that Saturn was the only
one to have a ring system, but now we know that all major gas planets have ring
systems, yet none is as prominent as that of Saturn.
