1. Sensex zooms 257 points on inflation surprise

Following a marginally higher start, Indian indices crept up tracking optimistic global cues. Markets went in top gear in
late morning deals as Dec WPI data surprized one and all. Benchmarks remained in joyous mood to end near days
high with Sensex soaring nearly 250 points and Nifty ending above 6320. Among BSE sectorials, Capital Goods was
the star performer followed by Bankex.
On global front, US indices climbed higher on retail sales observing a modest growth of 0.2% in December. Asian and
European markets also followed positive trades of Wall Street.
Back home, adding to the euphoric digits, after CPI, another inflation gauge, WPI also eased to surprising five months
low level in December. India's main inflation gauge, Wholesale Price Index (WPI) dropped to 6.16% as compared to
7.52% in November and 7.31% during the corresponding month of the previous year. October’s WPI was revised
upwards to 7.24% against 7% earlier. (Read More)
On stock specific front, Coal India gained 2.2% on BSE as the company will pay an interim dividend of Rs 29 per
share, aggregating Rs 18317 crore. Government will get Rs 16485.71 crore for its 90% stake in the company. (Read

Yes Bank shined 2% on BSE after registering 21.41% rise in Q3FY14 Net at Rs 415.6 crore as compared to Rs

Bajaj Finance registered 20.6% jump in Q3FY14 Net at Rs 194.14 crore as compared to Rs 160 crore for the same

The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 21289.49, up 256.61 points or 1.22%. The 30 share index touched a high and a low
of 21302.73 and 21091.46 respectively. 29 stocks advanced against 0 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The CNX Nifty gained 79.05 points or 1.27% to settle at 6320.90. The index touched high and low of 6325.20 and
6265.30 respectively. 45 stocks advanced against 5 declining ones on the index.

The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved up to 6581.70 and gained 0.18% while S&P BSE Small-cap index jumped up by
0.30% to 6600.88.
The broader S&P BSE 500 index increased to 7802.76 (up 0.89%) and CNX 500 index rose to 4899.70 (up 1.01%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 2.03% at 15.42 from its previous close of 15.74 on Tuesday.
Sectors in action
On the BSE Sectorial front, Capital Goods (up 1.98%), Banks (up 1.59%) and Real Estate (up 1.31%) were the top
gainers.
Consumer Durables (down 0.75%) and Healthcare (down 0.02%) were the top losers.
The Angels and the Devils
Larsen And Toubro Ltd (up 2.71%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (up 2.56%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd (up
2.36%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (up 2.15%) and ICICI Bank (up 2.00%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
There was no loser.

2. Benchmark Drivers
Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (36.26 points), ICICI Bank (27.86 points), ITC Ltd (27.06 points),
Larsen And Toubro Ltd (25.48 points) and HDFC Bank (18.22 points) were the major Sensex drivers today.
On the other end Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (9.52 points), ICICI Bank (7.33 points), ITC Ltd (7.09
