1. Markets slump on weak global cues; Nifty ends below 6K
Indian indices started marginally down with Nifty below 6K mark disappointed on IIP and CPI numbers. Nervous
benchmarks were seen hovering around previous close till noon session. Subsequently weakness in global markets
dragged domestic markets to mark a negative close for seventh straight session. On BSE sectorial front, realty topped
the laggards.
Among global peers, all the US, Asian and European indices suffered a sharp annihilation on worries of US Federal
Reserve to begin scaling down its asset buying program soon.
On Macro-economic front, industrial production and retail inflation gauged by IIP and CPI were announced yesterday.
Index of Industrial production (IIP) for September FY14 grew 2% much below the D-street expectation of 3%. IIP for
August 2013 has been revised downwards to 0.43% from 0.6% (provisional). Industrial output for April-September
period is 0.4% as compared to 0.1% in the same period of FY13.
Annual inflation rate based on all India general Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October 2013 rose to 10.09% as
compared to 9.84% for September 2013.
Public Sector bank bellwether, State Bank of India shined 1.35% on BSE despite its Q2 Net plunged 35% to Rs 2375
crore as against Rs 3658 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Gross NPAs climbed to 5.64% in the
September quarter from 5.56% on month on month basis. (Result)
Automobile major, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd gained 1.83% on BSE as the company’s Q2 Net rose 9.7% to Rs 989.5
crore as compared to Rs 901.8 crore in the same quarter of previous fiscal. (Featured Result)
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) tanked 2% on BSE after posting a steep fall of 81.51% in Q2 Net at Rs
931.13 crore as compared to Rs 5034.8 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. (Result)
Reliance Communications jumped 2.48% on BSE on reporting 9-fold jump in Q2FY14 Net at Rs 81 crore as compared
to Rs 9 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. On the consolidated basis, the group’s Net soared 561.76% to
Rs 675 crore as compared to Rs 102 crore in Q2FY13. (Result)
Oil India ended marginally in red after company registered 5.33% drop in Q2 Net at Rs 903.64 crore as compared to
Rs 954.57 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. (Result)
T h e market breadth on the BSE closed in negative. Advancing and declining stocks were 1075 and 1422
respectively, while 172 scrips remained unmoved.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 20194.40, down 87.51 points or 0.43%. The 30 share index touched a high and a
low of 20365.59 and 20161.64 respectively. 11 stocks advanced against 19 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The CNX Nifty lost 28.45 points or 0.47% to settle at 5989.60. The index touched high and low of 6042.25 and
5972.45 respectively. 20 stocks advanced against 30 declining ones on the index.

The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved down to 6076.79 and lost 0.59% while S&P BSE Small-cap index hammered
down by 0.65% to 5891.97.
The broader S&P BSE 500 index decreased to 7361.40 (down 0.49%) and CNX 500 index declined to 4614.65 (down
0.49%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 1.97% at 20.45 from its previous close of 20.86 on Tuesday.
Sectors in action
On the BSE Sectorial front, Automobile (up 0.47%), Consumer Durables (up 0.22%) and Metals (up 0.19%) were the
top gainers.
Real Estate (down 1.14%), FMCG (down 0.98%) and Information Technology (down 0.65%) were the top losers.
The Angels and the Devils
Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 2.29%), Tata Steel Ltd (up 1.86%), Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (up 1.83%), Sun
Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (up 1.61%) and Tata Motors Ltd (up 1.58%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
2. GAIL (India) Ltd (down 2.43%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd (down 2.24%), Cipla Ltd (down 2.00%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd (down
1.85%) and HDFC Bank (down 1.83%) were the top losers on the Sensex.
Benchmark Drivers
ITC Ltd (-34.38 points), HDFC Bank (-26.41 points), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (-23.77 points), Reliance
Industries Ltd (-14.34 points) and Tata Motors Ltd (11.86 points) were the major Sensex drivers today.
On the other end ITC Ltd (-9.24 points), HDFC Bank (-6.80 points), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (-6.50 points),
Reliance Industries Ltd (-4.23 points) and Tata Motors Ltd (3.20 points) were the major Nifty movers today.
Pivot, Supports and Resistance Levels
CNX Nifty is now pivoted at 6001 for next session. The next support is at 5961 and on upside it has a resistance at
6030 levels.
