3. Executive Summery
Tourism is defined as travel that people go out from their regular environment for the
certain period of time for pleasure, business, or other purpose. The Austrian economist
defined one of the earliest definitions in 1910 which was “bob total of operators, mainly of
an economic nature, which directly relate to the entry, stay and movement of foreigners
inside and outside a certain country, city or a region”. The World Tourism Organization
define tourists as people who quot;travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment
for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related
to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visitedquot;. Although many
of us have been “tourist” at some point in our lives, so defining what tourism actually is
can be difficult.
The aim of this document is to present a design proposal for a tourism site of the city of
Florence (Italy), including conceptual and logical choices about the contents of the
application and the navigation among them.
The approach used in this document is the IDM (Interactive Dialogue Model) design
technique. According to it, the design is divided in to three steps: the Conceptual design,
where the content is partitioned into “topics” and relations between them, the Logical
design where further details about the content organization and navigation are given, and
the Page design where the previous choices are translated into pages of the application.
As a result of this design process, the document presents a conceptual scheme including
the topics and their mutual relations, a logical scheme with the details of each topic and of
the navigation, a overall “map” of the organization of the website and some sketches (page
design) of its principal pages.
