Spanish-American War (1898) The Spanish-American War took place in 1898, resulting in the gain of control by the United States of America, on the former Spanish colonies in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. Therefore dollar diplomacy means in general, use from the U.S. economic potential, aiming at the dependence of Latin American countries, and therefore manipulate them to achieve their goals in this sub-continent, which according to the manifest destiny was intended to be a U.S. territory.
