Greek gods & Semitic prophets
Greek gods
Gods of one the ancient civilization ; Greek ,still
influential in western and non western
 countries.
Semitic prophets
The three main Semitic religions
• Christianity
• Judaism
• Islam
They are related by a common belief in God &
the hereafter and the constant battle between
good and evil.
Features of Greek
   civilization
1.War
2.Libidos

            Sex
3.Murder
4.Homosexuality

• The nature of Greek divinity had encouraged the
coupling between god and animals .
6.Male dominating society
Aristotle said
‘women has no soul’.

   Socrates said
‘women are useless’.
Greeks had also inherited
  theater and debate,
  sculpture and sports
The qualities of Greeks are also
   found in literature of western
               society

KEATS;

‘Beauty is truth, truth is beauty,
that is all ye know on earth and all
ye need to know’.
Semitic Societies

Semitic means ‘member of people
supposedly descended from them
   including Jews and Arabs’.
Political differences
• For Islam religion and politics are fused.
• In contrast Christian church and state has become
  separate.
• Judaism falls somewhere between Islam and
  Christianity.
• Islam unlike Judaism and Christianity has no
priesthood. The mullah, found in some parts of
Muslim world is not the equivalent of rabbi or
  parish priest.
• In Islam Prophets had warned, “There is no
  mockery in Islam”.
Difference in Greeks &
              Semitic
• fundamental concept of god was different.
• , the faithful were either chosen ones: like
the Jews or the people of God, like the
Christians or the ummah, the Muslim
  community of believers.
• a moral basic for society was introduced by
the special messengers like Moses, Jesus
  and Muhammad. These Semitic Prophets
represented and propagated a moral order.
• The bitterest conflict is on doctrinal matters;
the Christians blame the Jews for Jesus’ death.
• Christian also makes attacks on Prophets and
  the Quran.
• Muslim in turn believes that they possess the
  final revelation.
• Meanwhile, the Jews dismiss the other two
religions as upstarts, declaring themselves the
chosen ones, the exclusive favorites of God.
• The great historical clash between Christian
Europe and Muslims for the holy lands known
  as crusades
similarities
• The most important is that of God
and moral basis of life on earth
• They share Prophets, common
  ancestors, Adam and Eve. They
also share many of the holy
  places in Jerusalem.
• They shared succulent carp of
Urfa. It has been a blessed fish
  known as Abraham’s carp.
