Rock-a-bye-Baby.
Rock -a-bye baby, on the tree top.
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock;
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all.
Hush a bye baby, up in the sky,
On a soft cloud tis easy to fly;
When the clouds burst the raindrops will fall
And down will come baby to mother once more.

Today is my first day at my new school in Ipoh. I am surprised that it is even
bigger than my old school in Kuala Lumpur. The school has three blocks. Two of them
consist of classroom while the third, which is in the Main Block, consists of the hall,
library, computer rooms, laboratories and staff offices. Each of the blocks has three
floors. My classroom is on the second floor of Block A where the Form One and Two
classes are located. Block B is only for the Form Three and Five classrooms.
The hall can easily accommodate the 100 over students in the school. It also
has four badminton courts. I have applied to become a member of the library. I think I
will be spending a lot of time studying there because it is air-conditioned and very
comfortable. It is filled with shelves of books and there are enough tables and chairs for
50 students

Hello! My name is Maria. I’m the only child in my

A shepherd boy was looking after his sheep near a village. He wanted to have some fun.
So he shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!”. His voice was loud as thunder. The villagers rushed to help him.
When they arrived, they didn’t see any wolf. The boy was laughing loudly. The next day, he
played the same trick. The villagers were angry with him. A few days later, a wolf attacked the
boy’s sheep. He turned as pale as a sheet.
“Wolf! Wolf!” he shouted.
The villagers heard the cry. They said, “This time he can’t treat us like fools again.”
Nobody went to help the boy. All his sheep were killed by the wolf. A liar will not be

Mrs Sue was an old lady who lived all alone in a huge cottage at countryside. She had become accustomed to it
as she had done for the past thirty years. She had no qualms about living the windows of her cottage open all day,
even in the night. Nothing could frighten her.
One chilly night, while she was boiling some water to make herself some hot coffee, a young man in old and
grubby clothing crept up and suddenly and quietly from behind and cupped her mouth with his hand. He was amazed
the old lady did not resist nor struggle to get free.
Gazing into her warm eyes, he removed his hand from her mouth.
“I don’t mean to hurt you, madam,” the young man said. The old lady , unruffled and showing no signs of fear or
whatsoever of the young man, made her way slowly to her favourite rocking chair by the fire.
In the meantime, the man, who caught sight of two golden cups on her table, snatched them up and examined
them.
“I’m afraid they are not made of real gold,” she said apologetically.
“You’ve got money in this house. I want it!” demanded the man impatiently.
“I know it’s in my handbag. I’ve been searching for it all morning as I’ve misplaced it. I’m always in that kind of
trouble, if it’s not my handbag, it’s my keys or spectacles.”
She then invited the man to sit down and have some coffee and cookies. The man was dumbfounded.
“Here, help yourself to these freshly-baked chocolate cookies.” The man was speechless but he accepted the
invitation.
“You’re a beggar, aren’t you?” she asked casually as she served him some coffee and cookies.
“I wasn’t born a burglar. I’ve been forced by circumstances. I’ve been out of a job for the last six months. Hunger
has forced me into burglary.”
“Yes, I understand. It’s most unfortunate that you’ve chosen to rob me on the day I’ve misplaced my money. Well,
young man, let us make a deal. I need someone to tend to my garden, but I can’t afford to hire you. Instead I’ll give
you food.”
“It’s a sporting offer, Missie!” the young man said. For the first time, he broke into a broad smile.

your country in two months-time.
It will be nice to see you again. May I
come and visit you? We will be

it will be our first time in Malaysia.
So can you tell me more about your

We have heard the weather in

4. Were the children enjoy listening to stories told by Eddie and Chee Kiat?
5. As a volunteer, how can you help to ease the flood victims? State your own ideas without

FORM 1; B5 DL1 E1
Last weekend, there was heavy rain in Kampung Delima and the village was flooded.
The flood victims were moved temporarily to the village community hall. Yesterday, the 15th
November, I joined the girl guides and the boy scouts from my school to help the flood
victims.
Firstly, we distributed the food and drinking water to the victims. Each family
received three cans of sardine, a packet of rice, five packets of instant noodles and a few
bottles of drinking water. We also gave them clothes, towels and sleeping mats that were
donated by the Parent Teacher Association of our school.
Then, we helped to clean the hall. Some of us swept and mopped the floor. Later, we
collected the rubbish around the hall compound. We also cleaned the toilets and wiped the
windows.
In the evening, we helped to take care of the children because their mothers were
busy cooking. Eddie and Chee Kiat told interesting stories to entertain the children. The
children really enjoyed listening to the stories. Later, we all sang some songs.
At the end of the day, we were glad that we had the chance to help the flood victims.
If given a chance, we would definitely volunteer to help those in need.

FORM 1; B5 DB1 E1
Cooking is one job that most children enjoy. Most parents do not allow their
children into the kitchen because of the potential accidents that can occur.
Research shows that children acquire many useful skills when cooking. Teaching a
child to cook is beneficial and fun.
By learning to weigh and measure ingredients and watching milk heat up,
children learn about Mathematics and Science. Besides, children can also learn
about the importance of food. They can be told to stop eating junk food and
taught to cook nutritious meals instead.
Social skills can also be learnt in the kitchen. Working together on a recipe
teaches children the importance of cooperation and sharing tasks. Hence, cooking
is a great joy. Even a cooking disaster can be funny, for example, when a freshly
baked cake ends up on the kitchen floor. Children can also enjoy the
companionship of cooking. Chatting while cooking and preparing a meal is a lovely
pastime.

Read the diary entry below carefully and find the meaning of unfamiliar words from variety of sources for example dictionary, thesaurus etc. 13 March Today is my first day at my new school in Ipoh. I am surprised that it is even bigger than my old school in Kuala Lumpur. The school has three blocks. Two of them consist of classroom while the third, which is in the Main Block, consists of the hall, library, computer rooms, laboratories and staff offices. Each of the blocks has three floors. My classroom is on the second floor of Block A where the Form One and Two classes are located. Block B is only for the Form Three and Five classrooms. The hall can easily accommodate the 100 over students in the school. It also has four badminton courts. I have applied to become a member of the library. I think I will be spending a lot of time studying there because it is air-conditioned and very comfortable. It is filled with shelves of books and there are enough tables and chairs for 50 students No Unfamiliar words Meaning FORM 1:B2 DB1 E2

The villagers heard the cry. They said, “This time he can’t treat us like fools again.” Nobody went to help the boy. All his sheep were killed by the wolf. A liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth. Adapted from Aesop’s Fables Similes from the text: 1. 2. Some examples of similes: As easy as A.B.C – very easy! She had become accustomed to it as she had done for the past thirty years. She had no qualms about living the windows of her cottage open all day, even in the night. Nothing could frighten her. One chilly night, while she was boiling some water to make herself some hot coffee, a young man in old and grubby clothing crept up and suddenly and quietly from behind and cupped her mouth with his hand. He was amazed the old lady did not resist nor struggle to get free. Gazing into her warm eyes, he removed his hand from her mouth. “I don’t mean to hurt you, madam,” the young man said. The old lady , unruffled and showing no signs of fear or whatsoever of the young man, made her way slowly to her favourite rocking chair by the fire. In the meantime, the man, who caught sight of two golden cups on her table, snatched them up and examined them. “I’m afraid they are not made of real gold,” she said apologetically. “You’ve got money in this house. I want it!” demanded the man impatiently. “I know it’s in my handbag. I’ve been searching for it all morning as I’ve misplaced it. I’m always in that kind of trouble, if it’s not my handbag, it’s my keys or spectacles.” She then invited the man to sit down and have some coffee and cookies. The man was dumbfounded. “Here, help yourself to these freshly-baked chocolate cookies.” The man was speechless but he accepted the invitation. “You’re a beggar, aren’t you?” she asked casually as she served him some coffee and cookies. “I wasn’t born a burglar. I’ve been forced by circumstances. I’ve been out of a job for the last six months. Hunger has forced me into burglary.” “Yes, I understand. It’s most unfortunate that you’ve chosen to rob me on the day I’ve misplaced my money. Well, young man, let us make a deal. I need someone to tend to my garden, but I can’t afford to hire you. Instead I’ll give you food.” “It’s a sporting offer, Missie!” the young man said. For the first time, he broke into a broad smile. FORM 1; B4 DB1 E1

FORM 1; B5 DL1 E1 Last weekend, there was heavy rain in Kampung Delima and the village was flooded. The flood victims were moved temporarily to the village community hall. Yesterday, the 15th November, I joined the girl guides and the boy scouts from my school to help the flood victims. Firstly, we distributed the food and drinking water to the victims. Each family received three cans of sardine, a packet of rice, five packets of instant noodles and a few bottles of drinking water. We also gave them clothes, towels and sleeping mats that were donated by the Parent Teacher Association of our school. Then, we helped to clean the hall. Some of us swept and mopped the floor. Later, we collected the rubbish around the hall compound. We also cleaned the toilets and wiped the windows. In the evening, we helped to take care of the children because their mothers were busy cooking. Eddie and Chee Kiat told interesting stories to entertain the children. The children really enjoyed listening to the stories. Later, we all sang some songs. At the end of the day, we were glad that we had the chance to help the flood victims. If given a chance, we would definitely volunteer to help those in need. Written by Anna Lim, Form 1A
