Wedding fashion for 2011 celebrity brides
1. With two royal weddings and a host of models tying the knot, take a look at the most stylish
brides of 2011 so far. And we’re greatly anticipating Kim Kardashian’s big wedding day
soon.
After months of speculation, Kate Middleton’s wedding dress turned out to be the work of
Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton. It featured a strapless, Victorian-style
corset, narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips – long a signature of the late couturier –
underneath a high-necked, long-sleeved, sculpted bodice in intricate lacework, handmade by
the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace.
2. The Duchess of Cambridge later changed into another McQueen creation to party her
wedding night away with Prince William and close friends and family.
3. Kate Moss showed how loyal she was to close friend and disgraced Christian Dior designer
John Galliano by commissioning him to make her wedding gown.
4. To marry Albert II, Prince of Monaco, Charlene Wittstock wore an Armani Privé gown.
5. For the Gala dinner in the evening on the Opera terraces, the former Olympic swimmer wore
another Armani Privé gown, this time with a sheer panel and tiered ruffles.
6. In California in May, Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge tied the knot in style with Kings
of Leon frontman Caleb Followill wearing a bespoke gown by Vera Wang, which was
strapless and delicately embellished with Chantilly lace along the hem and trail. Followill, 29,
looked dapper in a grey suit by Gucci.
7. Dylan Lauren, 37, called upon her fashion designer father Ralph for her special dress, and
showed off the handmade creation – a mix of duchesse satin, tulle, silk and georgette, in a
shoot for US Vogue . The figure hugging style contrasted with a voluminous, flowing trail
makes it unmistakably Ralph Lauren.
8. In front of tons of A-list guests, we might add! Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel and Amber
Tamblyn (both co-stars of the bride’s in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants), as well as
Rebecca Romijn and Mark Indelicato (also co-stars of the bride in Ugly Betty) all witnessed
Ferrera’s wedding to longtime boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams.
Singer Lily Allen chose an empire-line gown, which consisted of sheer, three-quarter length
sleeves adorned with lace by French designer Delphine Manivet. The cut of the dress left
plenty of room for her burgeoning baby bump, as she and new husband Sam Cooper chose
the big day no announce that they were expecting.
