Enjoy Your Food with HAPIfork

Eating too fast, and not chewing long enough leads to poor digestion and poor
weight control.

The HAPIfork is an electronic fork that monitors your eating habits. The HAPIfork

Every time you bring food from your plate to your mouth with your fork, this
action is called: a “fork serving”.

The HAPIfork also measures:

Sleep Better & Reduce Your Stress
with HAPIwatch
Knowing more about your sleep patterns and how you build stress is the first step
to a better life.

The HAPIwatch is an electronic watch that monitors your sleep and stress patterns.
You wear it on your wrist like an ordinary watch, and it measures your heart rate in
real time.

By measuring your heart rate, you are in a better position to understand the source
of potential stress. If your heart rate exceeds a certain level, the HAPIwatch gently
vibrates to tell you to take a break and relax.

The HAPIwatch also tracks your physical activity (steps, calories, workout time and
distance). And at night, it uses its sleep sensor to record sleep data.

The HAPIwatch is equipped with a Bluetooth connection, HAPILABS app, Online
Dashboard plus a coaching program to help you de-stress YOUR life and, of course,
live better.

The Science Behind the HAPIbutton
Beyond success, beauty, wealth, possession, what really matters today for an individual’s quality of life
and feeling of happiness?

What you should know is that research in neurobiology over the past 15 years have shown that the
sense of well-being of the individual is largely determined by the balance between two sets of essential
hormones within the body.

The first set being serotonin and dopamine, which flow through the brain and cause positive emotions.
These emotions tend to focus on personal satisfaction, like when you win a game, succeed in business
or go on a nice vacation. They also include more subtle emotions related to sensation, such as having
a good time with friends, sharing a romantic dinner with a loved one or playing with your kids. The
decreased level of these hormones would result in rather low morale, depression or a period of the blues.

And then there’s the adrenaline and cortisol set of essential hormones, located in the adrenal glands.
They are mainly generated by emotions seen as “negative” even if they are sometimes needed to
overcome challenges in life (such as stress). Production of adrenaline and cortisol are rarely simultaneous,
they do not correspond to the same types of bodily responses.

The adrenaline flow is usually triggered by stressful situations related to external pressures (work,
sports…) while secretions of cortisol are more akin to the emotional ‘recovery’ after a period of feeling
down.

It’s a fact that you can experience yourself; at the beginning of the twenty-first century - the age of
performance and pressures of all kinds - the balance in many individuals is heavier in the cortisol
adrenaline-side. This has the effect of weakening or even prematurely deteriorating the body.

One of the main purpose of the HAPIbutton is to restore the balance between these two sets of
hormones by naturally supporting the production of serotonin.

  • 9. Enjoy Your Food with HAPIfork by Jacques Lépine Eating too fast, and not chewing long enough leads to poor digestion and poor weight control. The HAPIfork is an electronic fork that monitors your eating habits. The HAPIfork gives you precise information about your eating schedule. The HAPIfork alerts you with the help of indicator lights and gentle vibrations when you are eating too fast. Every time you bring food from your plate to your mouth with your fork, this action is called: a “fork serving”. The HAPIfork also measures: • How long it takes to eat your meal. • The amount of “fork servings” taken per minute. Why it is important to eat slowly • Intervals between “fork servings”. Since 2002, a series of scientific studies highlighted the negative effects related to eating meals too quickly: This information is then uploaded via USB or Bluetooth to your Online Dashboard to track your progress. • Weight gain: as during the meal, satiety is felt after about 20 minutes. The faster you eat, the more you eat. The HAPIfork also comes with the HAPILABS app plus a coaching program to help you eat better and change your eating behavior. • Digestive problems: food that is eaten too quickly is often poorly chewed. The work of the digestive tract is made more difficult. • Gastric reflux: several studies have shown that the faster one eats, the more likely the possibility of gastric reflux. • Postoperative complications: eating more slowly lessens the stress on weakened tissues. More info at www.slowcontrol.com 9 Optimist: Person who travels on nothing from nowhere to happiness. Mark Twain
  • 10. Move Your Body with HAPItrak The HAPItrak is an activity tracker that motivates you to be more active, helps you stay in shape and captures your HAPImoments. Located in your pocket or clipped to your belt, the HAPItrak saves all the data related to your physical activity (steps, calories, workout time and distance). Your HAPItrak is YOUR personal motivator. It communicates with you by regularly sending messages that keep pushing you on. You can also press on the HAPIbutton whenever you feel a positive emotion… a HAPImoment! The HAPItrak comes with the HAPILABS app and Online Dashboard plus How trackers help us to be more active a personalized coaching program to help you be more active in your everyday life. We all know that we should be exercising on a regular basis. We also know that walking is probably the easiest way to get exercise. Wearing a fitness tracker when you’re walking not only provides a reality check on how active you are, it also serves as a measurable way to achieve your activity goals. It’s both a good motivational tool as well as a way of getting immediate feedback. Many different studies showed that activity trackers’ users walked at least 2,000 more steps each day than nonusers, and using a device helped them increase their overall physical activity levels by at least 25%. A daily goal of 30 minutes of walking is ideal. If 30 minutes at once is too much, we can try to break it up into smaller intervals. We can go for a walk at lunchtime, use the stairs instead of the elevator or park the car a little farther from the office. It all adds up! Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me 10 happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Groucho Marx
  • 11. Sleep Better & Reduce Your Stress with HAPIwatch Knowing more about your sleep patterns and how you build stress is the first step to a better life. The HAPIwatch is an electronic watch that monitors your sleep and stress patterns. You wear it on your wrist like an ordinary watch, and it measures your heart rate in real time. By measuring your heart rate, you are in a better position to understand the source of potential stress. If your heart rate exceeds a certain level, the HAPIwatch gently vibrates to tell you to take a break and relax. The HAPIwatch also tracks your physical activity (steps, calories, workout time and distance). And at night, it uses its sleep sensor to record sleep data. The HAPIwatch is equipped with a Bluetooth connection, HAPILABS app, Online Dashboard plus a coaching program to help you de-stress YOUR life and, of course, live better. Why It Is Important To Take Time To Relax Modern life can be stressful and quickly become a roller- coaster ride. Exciting highs. Heart-breaking lows. And as we juggle responsibilities, fit all we have to do into a crowded work day, shifting and adapting to a constantly changing playground, battling the effects of hungry new competition, we experience stress. If it keeps on accumulating, we start to feel the ill effects. Sagging enthusiasm. Frequent tiredness. Fading optimism. Bleaker outlook for the future. Even serious health problems. Relaxing regularly allows you to reduce stress, get creative, rejuvenate, perform more precise evaluations and make better decisions. Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming 11 gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust
  • 12. The Science Behind the HAPIbutton Beyond success, beauty, wealth, possession, what really matters today for an individual’s quality of life and feeling of happiness? What you should know is that research in neurobiology over the past 15 years have shown that the sense of well-being of the individual is largely determined by the balance between two sets of essential hormones within the body. The first set being serotonin and dopamine, which flow through the brain and cause positive emotions. These emotions tend to focus on personal satisfaction, like when you win a game, succeed in business or go on a nice vacation. They also include more subtle emotions related to sensation, such as having a good time with friends, sharing a romantic dinner with a loved one or playing with your kids. The decreased level of these hormones would result in rather low morale, depression or a period of the blues. And then there’s the adrenaline and cortisol set of essential hormones, located in the adrenal glands. They are mainly generated by emotions seen as “negative” even if they are sometimes needed to overcome challenges in life (such as stress). Production of adrenaline and cortisol are rarely simultaneous, they do not correspond to the same types of bodily responses. The adrenaline flow is usually triggered by stressful situations related to external pressures (work, sports…) while secretions of cortisol are more akin to the emotional ‘recovery’ after a period of feeling down. It’s a fact that you can experience yourself; at the beginning of the twenty-first century - the age of performance and pressures of all kinds - the balance in many individuals is heavier in the cortisol adrenaline-side. This has the effect of weakening or even prematurely deteriorating the body. One of the main purpose of the HAPIbutton is to restore the balance between these two sets of hormones by naturally supporting the production of serotonin. Dr. Yann Rougier, author, physician and neurobiologist Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If 12 you love what you are doing, you will be successful. Albert Schweitzer
  • 13. Meet Jacques Lépine, What do you suggest for people who eat with their hands? What was your reaction when you learned about HAPIfork’s nomination in the 2013 the HAPIfork Inventor Jacques Lépine: This is the problem. In general, it’s not very good to eat with your hands, even if we can make CES Awards? Jacques Lépine: To tell the truth, I gasped. I lived that an exception from time to time. Why? Because when moment with intensity; all the years, weeks, and years A fork that makes you eat slowly, doesn’t it you eat with your hands, you must bite off your food of research that got me here flashed before my eyes. I seem a bit silly? with your mouth. So you take a large mouthful and waited for a long time for people around me to really Jacques Lépine: On the contrary, it’s a perfect tool you usually don’t chew it enough. For example, do you explain to me all the implications of this nomination, because it lies at the heart of the meal, the tool that know how many bites it takes to eat a hamburger? By as I could not believe it myself. Good news never brings food to your mouth. This is the only method my estimate, about 5 or 6. The concept of eating better comes alone; HAPIfork also just won CAPdigital’s that guarantees you to eat slowly.
