Py/o means Pus.
Examples of how Py/o can be used with prefixes or suffixes.
1) Pyoderma, pus producing skin infection
2) Pyothorax, having pus in chest cavity
3) Pyosalpinx, having pus in the fallopian tubes
Do you know what py/o means?
› Lipocytes means faty cells
› Lipoma means fatty tumor
› Liposuction means removal of fat beneath the skin
In the Medical World “Fat” means lip/o
› Rhytid/o
› Rhytidoplasty - surgical procedure to remove wrinkles
› Rhytidectomy - surgical removal of wrinkles
Wrinkles aren’t wanted here
1.Cryosurgery surgery using the local application of intense cold
to destroy unwanted tissue.
2.Cryogenics the branch of physics dealing with the production
and effects of very low temperatures.
3. Cryoglobulin is a protein that occurs in the blood in certain
disorders. It can be precipitated out of solution below 10°C,
causing obstruction in the fingers and toes.
Cry/o means
› Subcutaneous- situated or applied under the skin.
› Cutaneous -of, relating to, or affecting the skin.
› Intracutaneous- within the skin.
Cutane/o means “skin”
› Diaphoresis is often called "cold sweats”
› diaphoretic pertaining to, characterized by, or promoting
sweating.
Diaphor/o means profuse sweating
