The document discusses several important issues relating to the way of Muslims. It addresses the proper dawah style (tough vs easy vs educational), attitude (humble vs arrogant), and what brings unity among Muslims (Tawheed and Quran/Sunnah vs other things). Maintaining the right approach in these areas is vital to guiding people to the straight path.
3. Knowledge:
of the Straight Path
• Own opinions (Raaee)
• Qur’an only
• Qur’an & Sunnah
• Qur’an, Sunnah + Innovations
• Qur’an, Sunnah + Taqleed

4. Sects
“Indeed, the people of the Book before you split-up
into 72 sects. And this nation will split-up into 73
sects, 72 are in the Fire and one is in Paradise.” In
another narration: “All of them are in the Fire except
one.” It was asked: Who is that one? He replied:
“That which I and my Companions are upon.”

(5/62) and al-Hakim (1/128) and others. It was authenticated by al-Hafidh
al-’Iraqi in Takhrijul-Ihya (3/199) and al-Albaani in as-Saheehah (no.204).]

5. Criteria
“I am leaving amongst you two things, you
will never go astray as long as you cling to
them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah.
They will not separate from each other, until
you meet me at the Lake.”
[Sahih: Related by al-Hakim from Abu Hurayrah. It was authenticated by al-Albaani in
Takhrijul-Mishkat (no.186)]

6. Innovation (Bid’ah)
The Prophet ( ) stated repeatedly that: "Every
newly-invented thing is a bid'ah (innovation), every
bid'ah is a going astray, and every going astray will be in
the Fire."
[Reported by an-Nisaa'I, also narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and
Ibn Maajah]
The Prophet ( ) used to say, when beginning a
khutbah: “…the best speech is the Book of Allah and
the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad.
The worst of things are those which are newly-
invented, and every innovation is a going astray…"

[Muslim, 867]
7. Taqleed
“They (Jews & Christians) took their rabbis and
their priests to be their lords besides Allah”
[at-Taubah 9:31]
Adi Ibn Hatim said: “O Messenger of Allah! They
do not worship them (i.e. rabbis & priests)." The
Messenger said: “They certainly do. Don't they
make the Halal (allowed) Haram (disallowed) and
the Haram Halal, then you follow them?" He
answered yes. The Messenger said: "That is
worshiping them."
[Narrated by Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Jarir] 7
8. Taqleed
Ibn Abbas said: “I fear that stones will descend
upon you from the sky, that I say to you that
the Messenger of Allah said; and you say to
me that Abu Bakr and Umar say something
else!”
[Hasan: Related by Ahmad (no.3121), al-Khatib in al-Faqih wal-
Muttafaqqih (1/145) and Ibn ’Abdul-Barr in Jami’ Bayanul-’Ilm (2/196),
from Sa’id ibn Jubayr.]

14. Unity
• How can the Ummah be united?
–Tawheed
–Qur’an & Sunnah
14
15. [an-Noor 24:55] Allah has promised those among
you who believe, and do righteous good deeds,
that He will certainly grant them succession to
(the rulers) in the land...
And He will surely give them in exchange a safe
security after their fear (provided) they worship
Me and do not associate anything (in worship)
with Me. But whoever disbelieves after this, they
are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
15
16. [al-Anaam 6:82] It is those who believe
and confuse not their belief with Zulm
(shirk), for them (only) there is security
and they are the guided.
16
17. [al-Qalam 68:8-9] So obey you not the
deniers. They wish that you should
compromise (in religion out of courtesy)
with them, so they (too) would
compromise with you.

18. Examples of Unity
• Prophet ( ) & Quraish – Not even a day
– Compare this to man who urinated in the Masjid
• Musa (a.s.) & Haroon (a.s.)
• Prophet ( ) helping non-Muslims with
charity
• Abu Bakr (r.a.) & the Zakat rejecters
