Dependency theory argues that resources flow from poor, undeveloped states to rich, wealthy states, improving the rich at the expense of the poor. It was developed in the mid-19th century but still applies to today's society, explaining the divide between rich and poor countries. However, the theory was developed from a Marxist perspective by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and so is considered biased by some.
