Planning your holiday YOUR STYLE OF HOLIDAY
Basix
On a Basix trip you can expect amazing
experiences, but none of the inclusions that you
may not want. Which means budget (1-2T)
accommodation, plenty of free time, activities
that are optional and the freedom to choose
meals to suit your budget. On some trips you
may be camping and required to set up your
own tent. You’ll also have access to a group
leader to offer advice and help you uncover the
region’s hidden gems. On a Basix journey, the
way you travel is all a part of the adventure.
Depending on destination and itinerary you
could find yourself travelling on anything from
a donkey to a bus or a private safari vehicle.
These trips are ideal for first-time travellers
seeking fun and independence with the
support of a group leader. They’re also ideal
for independent travellers looking to make the
most of their travel time with minimum hassle
and maximum experiences.
Original
Original trips are classic Intrepid adventures.
With a mix of included activities and free time,
they offer plenty of opportunity to explore
at your own pace and join in activities that
really get beneath the skin of a destination.
While the occasional meal may be included,
you’ll have the freedom to seek out your
own culinary adventures. Accommodation is
generally budget or tourist class (2-3T) but
you’re as likely to find yourself as a guest of a
local family as staying in a hotel or camping.
Transport will vary as well. Depending on the
destination and the itinerary you could find
yourself travelling on anything from a camel
to a train or a private safari vehicle. It’s all a
part of the adventure! Original travellers have
a desire to make the most of their travel time
and really get to know a place, its people and
cultures.
Comfort
Comfort is your style of travel if you want
the whole grassroots experience with more
inclusions, meals and creature comforts.
While accommodation is predominantly tourist
class (3-4T), on some itineraries there is the
opportunity to stay with a local family, spend
the night on a train or camp out in exotic places
(without putting up your own tent of course!).
Along the way you’ll really experience the
destination up close. You’ll mingle with locals
and gain special insights from your leader. This
is not luxury travel but real world experiences,
just with a softer landing.
Themes
Some of our journeys have a special interest
or theme. Keep your eye out for them as you’re
searching for your perfect trip.
Active
Thrilling adventures is the simplest way to
describe these trips. As you’d expect, activity
is the key – though we’re talking cycling,
kayaking and walking rather than rock climbing
or paragliding. You don’t need to be super fit
for all Active trips, but they’re ideal if you want
a physical challenge with plenty of cultural
interaction.
Overland
Big adventures through immense landscapes.
These journeys take you off the beaten
track to experience the sights and sounds of
remote regions. Travelling in purpose-built
vehicles, you’ll explore with a group of up to
24 travellers. Accommodation depends on the
style of adventure you choose. If camping,
most meals are included and if there is a kitty
you will be required to pitch in and cook meals.
Like all big adventures, the more you put in the
more you’ll get out!
Your style of
travel...
Our travel styles share a common philosophy of getting out
there and experiencing the real world. Take a moment to
choose the style for you
5
YOURSTYLEOFHOLIDAY
Planning your holiday YOUR STYLE OF HOLIDAY
Short Break
Short Breaks are the ideal add-on to a longer
adventure, or just a short break in an amazing
destination. With a duration of 2-5 days these
trips range from relaxing beach breaks, to
excursions with a local guide or a short but
sweet group adventure. With guaranteed
frequent departures, group size will vary from
the single traveller to an average size of 12.
Also guaranteed is the opportunity for the type
of real life experience that makes travel
so rewarding.
Urban Adventures
Urban Adventures are city tours that unlock
the hidden secrets in and around our favourite
cities. They range from 2 hour to 1 day
adventures and uncover back streets, hidden
gems and fascinating sights. While these
adventures may be short, they’re big on real life
experiences. Step into the lives of the locals,
find out what makes the city tick and get
acquainted with the food and culture, all in
the company of an expert local guide. See
more than just the usual sights on an
Urban Adventure.
Marine
From cruising through the Galapagos to
exploring Antarctica on an icebreaker, set sail
on a boat-based adventure to explore oceans,
rivers or seas. Most of the time you will be
sleeping, eating and living onboard a boat but
there will be opportunity to head to dry land for
day trips and side excursions. The size of your
group will depend on the type of boat you are
travelling on.
Physical ratings...
You’ll find the physical rating next to the
itinerary. This indicates how much physical
activity is required of you on the trip - from
none at all (unless you feel like it) to 8+ hours a
day hiking or biking. It also tells you how fit you
need to be to enjoy it. Physical ratings range
from Z easy and relaxing; to ZZZZZ only
for the seriously fit, who are ready for a full-
on, active adventure. Choose a ZZZ trip for
inclusive activities that only require a moderate
level of fitness.
Culture shock
ratings...
You’ll also find the culture rating beside each
itinerary. This gives you an idea of the degree
of culture shock you can expect - whether
there’s any familiar food, health considerations
and how much you’ll need to adapt to local
customs. Culture ratings range from Z little
or no adjustment required; to ZZZZZ
expect a real culture shock. On a mid-point,
ZZZ rated trip you can expect unusual food
and some language barriers but still access to
home comforts.
Guaranteed
departures...
Because of our small group sizes, we’re able
to guarantee departures for almost all of our
trips. Unlike other operators, we generally
run trips on a ‘maximum number’ basis, not
a minimum. So unless minimum numbers are
specified, once you have booked and paid
your deposit, your trip is on!
Carbon Offset
Adventures…
Most of our trips are carbon offset, except
those where we do not have pricing control.
In this brochure, the trips featured without
carbon information are not offset. Please
note: Carbon emission information in this
brochure relates to amount of emissions
offset per person, per trip.

  • 4. vivaholidays.com.au 4 YOURSTYLEOFHOLIDAY Planning your holiday YOUR STYLE OF HOLIDAY Basix On a Basix trip you can expect amazing experiences, but none of the inclusions that you may not want. Which means budget (1-2T) accommodation, plenty of free time, activities that are optional and the freedom to choose meals to suit your budget. On some trips you may be camping and required to set up your own tent. You’ll also have access to a group leader to offer advice and help you uncover the region’s hidden gems. On a Basix journey, the way you travel is all a part of the adventure. Depending on destination and itinerary you could find yourself travelling on anything from a donkey to a bus or a private safari vehicle. These trips are ideal for first-time travellers seeking fun and independence with the support of a group leader. They’re also ideal for independent travellers looking to make the most of their travel time with minimum hassle and maximum experiences. Original Original trips are classic Intrepid adventures. With a mix of included activities and free time, they offer plenty of opportunity to explore at your own pace and join in activities that really get beneath the skin of a destination. While the occasional meal may be included, you’ll have the freedom to seek out your own culinary adventures. Accommodation is generally budget or tourist class (2-3T) but you’re as likely to find yourself as a guest of a local family as staying in a hotel or camping. Transport will vary as well. Depending on the destination and the itinerary you could find yourself travelling on anything from a camel to a train or a private safari vehicle. It’s all a part of the adventure! Original travellers have a desire to make the most of their travel time and really get to know a place, its people and cultures. Comfort Comfort is your style of travel if you want the whole grassroots experience with more inclusions, meals and creature comforts. While accommodation is predominantly tourist class (3-4T), on some itineraries there is the opportunity to stay with a local family, spend the night on a train or camp out in exotic places (without putting up your own tent of course!). Along the way you’ll really experience the destination up close. You’ll mingle with locals and gain special insights from your leader. This is not luxury travel but real world experiences, just with a softer landing. Themes Some of our journeys have a special interest or theme. Keep your eye out for them as you’re searching for your perfect trip. Active Thrilling adventures is the simplest way to describe these trips. As you’d expect, activity is the key – though we’re talking cycling, kayaking and walking rather than rock climbing or paragliding. You don’t need to be super fit for all Active trips, but they’re ideal if you want a physical challenge with plenty of cultural interaction. Overland Big adventures through immense landscapes. These journeys take you off the beaten track to experience the sights and sounds of remote regions. Travelling in purpose-built vehicles, you’ll explore with a group of up to 24 travellers. Accommodation depends on the style of adventure you choose. If camping, most meals are included and if there is a kitty you will be required to pitch in and cook meals. Like all big adventures, the more you put in the more you’ll get out! Your style of travel... Our travel styles share a common philosophy of getting out there and experiencing the real world. Take a moment to choose the style for you
  • 5. 5 YOURSTYLEOFHOLIDAY Planning your holiday YOUR STYLE OF HOLIDAY Short Break Short Breaks are the ideal add-on to a longer adventure, or just a short break in an amazing destination. With a duration of 2-5 days these trips range from relaxing beach breaks, to excursions with a local guide or a short but sweet group adventure. With guaranteed frequent departures, group size will vary from the single traveller to an average size of 12. Also guaranteed is the opportunity for the type of real life experience that makes travel so rewarding. Urban Adventures Urban Adventures are city tours that unlock the hidden secrets in and around our favourite cities. They range from 2 hour to 1 day adventures and uncover back streets, hidden gems and fascinating sights. While these adventures may be short, they’re big on real life experiences. Step into the lives of the locals, find out what makes the city tick and get acquainted with the food and culture, all in the company of an expert local guide. See more than just the usual sights on an Urban Adventure. Marine From cruising through the Galapagos to exploring Antarctica on an icebreaker, set sail on a boat-based adventure to explore oceans, rivers or seas. Most of the time you will be sleeping, eating and living onboard a boat but there will be opportunity to head to dry land for day trips and side excursions. The size of your group will depend on the type of boat you are travelling on. Physical ratings... You’ll find the physical rating next to the itinerary. This indicates how much physical activity is required of you on the trip - from none at all (unless you feel like it) to 8+ hours a day hiking or biking. It also tells you how fit you need to be to enjoy it. Physical ratings range from Z easy and relaxing; to ZZZZZ only for the seriously fit, who are ready for a full- on, active adventure. Choose a ZZZ trip for inclusive activities that only require a moderate level of fitness. Culture shock ratings... You’ll also find the culture rating beside each itinerary. This gives you an idea of the degree of culture shock you can expect - whether there’s any familiar food, health considerations and how much you’ll need to adapt to local customs. Culture ratings range from Z little or no adjustment required; to ZZZZZ expect a real culture shock. On a mid-point, ZZZ rated trip you can expect unusual food and some language barriers but still access to home comforts. Guaranteed departures... Because of our small group sizes, we’re able to guarantee departures for almost all of our trips. Unlike other operators, we generally run trips on a ‘maximum number’ basis, not a minimum. So unless minimum numbers are specified, once you have booked and paid your deposit, your trip is on! Carbon Offset Adventures… Most of our trips are carbon offset, except those where we do not have pricing control. In this brochure, the trips featured without carbon information are not offset. Please note: Carbon emission information in this brochure relates to amount of emissions offset per person, per trip.
