2. 8 DIY Projects That You Can Complete This Weekend
Are you looking to remodel elements of your home but find yourself short on time?
Even your most impactful DIY endeavors do not need to take weeks to complete.
You can expedite the decorating process with a number of projects that you can
easily complete in a weekend. Here are a few of these speedy projects:
3. 1. No-sew pillows
Pillows are a simple tool that you can use to add a bit of color and texture to any
room. However, you don’t have to purchase them pre-made from the store or sew
them yourself. Using a few DIY no-sew techniques, you can easily create quality
pillows for your home.
Start by purchasing sewing adhesive and some fabric that will fit your color scheme.
After cutting your fabric into two 15 x 20-inch pieces and one 20 x 20-inch piece,
overlap the two smaller portions atop the larger portion to create a “pocket.” After
you adhere the edges, you will be able to invert the pillow so the pattern faces
outward and slip stuffing into the open pouch on the rear.
4. 2. Chic closet upgrade
Whether you have a walk-in closet or a standard
one, there are a number of quick and easy ways
to bring new elegance to the space. The addition
of patterned wallpaper and colorful area can rugs
instantly beautify and add style to an entire
closet. You can incorporate a more boutique feel
by adorning the closet shelves with decadent
fabrics, like suede. While these tips can apply to
a closet of any size, a chic walk-in will never be
complete without a full-length mirror and plush
ottoman seating.
5. 3. Fireplace upgrade
An outdated fireplace can serve as a fun weekend project. Whether you want to
change the color with a fresh coat of paint or add a few personal items to the mantel,
you can leverage your creativity to overhaul the space and make it stand out. You
can also help your fireplace become a stunning focal point by adding such eye-
catching items as a colorful painting, flowers, and decorative lamps. For an even
more dramatic effect, try re-doing the tile in a new color or pattern.
6. 4. Wooden hanging rack
A branch or a piece of driftwood can play a key role in your next weekend project.
You can find purpose for these wooden scraps by mounting a segment of one to the
wall. By screwing in metal hooks to the underside, you will instantly create a hanger
for hats, coats, and other accessories. If you do not have the wall space, you can also
turn branches into a suspended hanging rack. Simply attach chain links to the
ceiling and loop the branch through the ends to serve as an alternative to a
traditional coat hanger.
7. 5. Bar cart
In the span of an afternoon, you can build a
customized bar cart that will both house your
alcohol and impress your dinner guests. For an
interesting and unconventional look, try going an
industrial route when selecting the materials for
your project. Pick out an array of weathered steel
tubes and flanges to serve as the supports for each
shelf of the bar cart. After you complete the frame
itself, add a few finishing touches, such as wheels
and a small handle to mobilize your new bar cart.Image courtesy

8. 6. Plate wall installation
Plates can help you instill a bit of artistic interest into any room, with styles ranging
from plain to whimsical. Easily completed in a weekend, this project only requires an
array of plates and a creative eye. Using newspaper, trace out the pattern in which
you would like to hang the plates—you can assemble them in a line or a specific
shape, or you can go completely free form. Mounting the plates on a white wall will
help them stand out best, but even the most brightly hued dishes will work well with
most wall colors.
9. 7. Small marble table
In just a short amount of time, you can enhance your living room with a marble-
accented table. Rather than purchasing an expensive version from a store, you can
fully tap into your DIY side by handcrafting one yourself. When constructing the
table base, try using metallic piping to create a more decadent aesthetic. Otherwise,
you will only need a single marble tile to serve as a tabletop. Before use, you should
adhere this piece to the frame using sealant to ensure that it remains steady. For an
even easier DIY alternative, you can line the top of an existing table with some
marble-looking contact paper.
10. 8. Painted “wallpaper”
It is easy to add ornamentation to your walls without the need for traditional
wallpaper. If you have the proper DIY skills and a steady grip, you can create your
own patterned “wallpaper” instead. Geometric designs make some of the best
choices for a new wall design because they are remarkably easy to create yourself.
However, you can also look online for interesting geometric shapes and use them to
create a stencil. Lightly pencil the shape onto the wall and go over each line with
paint. Using this technique, you can create a single accent wall or completely
overhaul the whole room.
