Friday: Research Day in Beacon Academy

Context: Grade 11 preparing for the EE

Learning Concepts: Ideas I want the grade 11s to take away with them after the session:
a. Research is a cyclical process.
b. Using the library is part and parcel of the research cycle.
c. Knowing and using different sources of information namely, primary, secondary and tertiary
sources, will lead you to answers for your research question.

Learning Experience:
Plenary Session @ the Library (30 mins.)
a. Review of the research cycle
b. Use of library resources and sources of information in the research cycle
c. Categories of Information: Traditional and Electronic ­ Primary / Secondary / Tertiary

c. Is this a reliable source of information?
d. Is the information objective or biased?

 Group B ­ with Teacher (either Ms. Estefani or Library Safari: In groups of three, find the
 Mr. de Santo)                                  answers on your given questions using the
                                                available library resources.

                                                Exit Pass: Notecards ­ Questions are based
                                                on Extended Essay topics. Identify the
                                                keywords in your research question. Use
                                                these for searching and locating sources in
                                                the library and the Internet.
