Jack Dorsey created Twitter in 2006 as a side project called "twttr" while working at a podcasting company called Odeo. An early prototype was used internally at Odeo before Twitter launched publicly in July 2006. Twitter grew rapidly after its popularity increased at the 2007 South by Southwest festival, reaching 400,000 tweets per quarter in 2007 and 100 million tweets per quarter in 2008. The key features of Twitter allow users to follow others and see a reverse chronological feed of their tweets. While Twitter provides a way to share information online, it is important not to become addicted to using such sites.
