4. Typical school day
A typical school day could begin at 9am.
Usually there is an interval, and a lunch break during the
day.
Every school is different, but in my school, there were 10
periods a day.
In my school, each period lasted 35 minutes.
School day ends at 4pm.
5. Exams in Scotland
There are various types of exams in Scotland for young people.
The three main types of exams are:
Standard Grades
Highers
Advanced Highers
If a pupils passes these exams, then he/she will receive a
certificate from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) by
post.
In recent years, pupils can check their results online, a day
before the results arrive by post.
6. After school
When school finishes, pupils can continue with further
studies, or start to look for a job.
College or university are two places that many young
people choose to attend.
A pupil is allowed to leave school at the age of 16.
However, many continue to study instead of leaving
school, as studying can bring more opportunities in
future.
