The water in the Amur River near Khabarovsk reached 720 cm (24 ft), exceeding the historic level of 642 cm set during the flood of 1897 over a century ago. HEALTH CARE CONCERNS: At present, unfavorable sanitary and epidemiological conditions exist throughout the flooded area, creating the potential for water-borne diseases. The flooding has created an urgent need for safe drinking water. Presentation courtesy of Dr. Walter Hays, Global Alliance for Disaster Reduction
