The countdown to the opening of the new Morrisons store in Sheldon is
underway. With over 10,000 sqm of new food store space and an
additional 5 retail units creating over 340 new jobs, this is another exciting
development for Birmingham.
Morrisons are committed to recruiting local people so this is a great
opportunity for residents of East Birmingham and Solihull.

This is a ‘Guaranteed Interview’ opportunity for those that can pass the process as agreed with the
employer: the process will be detailed in Part 2 of this briefing, which will follow in a few days.
The opportunity is a supported pathway to the new Morrisons jobs for unemployed jobseekers and will
involve pre-employment training and assessments.

The Partnership is asking you the referral agency to start thinking about appropriate candidates you
know will be interested in and suitable for the general shop floor vacancies (checkouts, deli, groceries,
fresh foods, customer café, etc.)

CANDIDATE CRITERIA & IMPORTANT NOTES:
Candidates must be ready to make themselves available for a 5-stage process with knockout assessments along
the way
Candidates must have a desire to work in retail and have the right attitude for customer service
Candidates will need to be committed to attending and completing the Training, (in two phases—must pass
phase one to continue to phase two training)
Candidates must have good written and spoken communication skills
Candidates must have have I.D. and Right to Work documentation
A criminal records check will be carried out by Morrisons and any record will be assessed on individual
circumstances
Work Programme Providers (WPP) will be responsible for paying travel expenses for JCP customers on their
programme. WPP will also need to inform Anne Gemmell (JCP), anne.gemmell1@jobcentreplus.gsi.gov.uk, and
Lesley Mason, lesley.mason@jobcentreplus.gsi.gov.uk, of any JCP customer who is invited to attend the first
and second phase training so that JCP can arrange Pre-entry Interviews before they commence training.
