Netball originated in the 1870s in England as a modification of basketball. The first official netball game was played in England in 1892. There are 7 positions on a netball court: goal defense, goal keeper, wing defense, wing attack, center, goal shooter, and goal attack. Netball games consist of 4 quarters that vary in length from 10 to 15 minutes depending on the age group but are generally longer for senior teams than junior teams. The Vixens are Victoria's state netball team who were unbeaten in 2012. Players can also represent Australia on the national netball team when playing against other countries like New Zealand. Most people play netball locally at their town's netball/football club
