Crashing the party
A couple on a yacht outing off the coast of
South Africa get a giant shock when a 40-ton
southern right whale jumps out of the ocean
and slams into their boat on July 21. The
whale destroyed the boat's mast and then
returned to the water. The couple were not
injured.
Making the most of it

Yangtze River in Wuhan, Hubei province,
China, on July 27. Heavy rains have pounded
large swaths of central and southern China,
flooding riverside towns, causing landslides
and raising key rivers to dangerous levels,
according to the Xinhua News Agency.
