             INTRODUCTION

What is Religion?

✔ It's the belief in the existence of a God (the creator of the universe with a supernatural power)

✔ It's a focal interest that is very important and helps you in your life

✔ It's a way of life that knows what is right and what is wrong, what's important in life and what's

     not so important

What is Religious Education?

✔ It's a subject that teaches you morality (moral values), beliefs and a good behaviour in your life to
     make you feel better

✔ To feel better, religious people have faith in something that they cannot see or in another
     different thing or person

✔ The meaning of faith is: a strong belief in a supernatural power that controls human destiny
(religious people can't see their god but they have faith in him / it).

**Now, we're going to experience faith in today's lesson with a game.

     Game 1

Pupils are in pairs: A and B

     A stands behind B

B stands with his arms up and his back to A

B falls back and A catches! B is not allowed to look back ( to help the pupils I'll give them a
             demonstration).

This is faith! You trust someone to catch you.

    Discuss with your class

1) Were you scared? Why?
2) Had you faith that you would be caught? Why?
3) Would you trust a stranger to catch you? Why?
4) Do you have faith in anything? For example, a football team, a pop band, friends, parents... Why?
5) Create an acrostic with FAITH or TRUST with the vocabulary I

                                                                                                            María Quintas
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ESO 1

What makes up a person? What kind of school subjects do you think are necessary for an
integral personality?

Everybody needs to develop the personality, the mind in different aspects (I draw a person on the
board and around it label all the parts of a human or I use the photocopy**).

     1. Which subjects do you think that develop your mind, your
capacities, your language, your reasoning abilities?

        Maths, Language, Science...

    2. Which subjects develop your physical condition, artistic,
       manual?

        Music, PE, Art...

    3. Which subjects develop your emotions, feelings, values, moral principles, ethic ways of life?

        Religion, Philosophy...

All of them help you to develop and improve your physical, social, moral, emotional and intellectual
capacities. You need to learn different aspects of them to build your personality. Everybody must look
for their life balance.

Why is really important Religious Education in school?

✔ Because everybody needs to believe in somebody or something and everybody must know about

the most important religions in the world and the main moral principles of these religions.

✔ Look at the map.

✔ Basic vocabulary I

         MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr.

Martin Luther King was a tremendously important Christian leader who worked to defend the rights of
black people and the racial equality between blacks and whites in the USA. In 1950s and 1960s
discrimination against black people was common.
Luther King was born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an excellent student in school. His parents
were ministers and he was a minister in Alabama, too. He married Coretta Scott in 1953. In 1955, in
Alabama, a black woman, Rosa Parks, refused to give her bus seat up to a white and for this reason
she was arrested. Black people refused to use the buses in the area as a protest. This boycott was
led by Martin Luther King. He used to say that love is the only force to transform an enemy into a

GOSPEL MUSIC LYRICS

                           THE GAITHERS. 'BECAUSE HE LIVES'

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,

and feel the pride and joy He gives;

but greater still the calm assurance:

a boy can face uncertain day because he lives.

Chorus:

Because he lives, I can face tomorrow.

Because he lives, all fear is gone.

Because I know He holds the future.

And life is worth a living.

Just because he lives.

And then one day I'll cross the river;

I'll fight life's final war with pain.

and then, as death gives way to victory,

I'll see the Lights of Glory and I'll know He reigns.

Chorus:

Because he lives, I can face tomorrow.

Because he lives, all fear is gone.

Because I know He holds the future.

And life is worth a living.

Just because He lives.

Now life is worth a living

Just because He lives.

they took part in a big revolt and

The Galileans were Jews but they spoke with a different accent and they

were very independent. They and the Judeans hated the Samaritans.

  • 2. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ESO 1 INTRODUCTION What is Religion? ✔ It's the belief in the existence of a God (the creator of the universe with a supernatural power) ✔ It's a focal interest that is very important and helps you in your life ✔ It's a way of life that knows what is right and what is wrong, what's important in life and what's not so important What is Religious Education? ✔ It's a subject that teaches you morality (moral values), beliefs and a good behaviour in your life to make you feel better ✔ To feel better, religious people have faith in something that they cannot see or in another different thing or person ✔ The meaning of faith is: a strong belief in a supernatural power that controls human destiny (religious people can't see their god but they have faith in him / it). **Now, we're going to experience faith in today's lesson with a game. Game 1 Pupils are in pairs: A and B A stands behind B B stands with his arms up and his back to A B falls back and A catches! B is not allowed to look back ( to help the pupils I'll give them a demonstration). This is faith! You trust someone to catch you. Discuss with your class 1) Were you scared? Why? 2) Had you faith that you would be caught? Why? 3) Would you trust a stranger to catch you? Why? 4) Do you have faith in anything? For example, a football team, a pop band, friends, parents... Why? 5) Create an acrostic with FAITH or TRUST with the vocabulary I María Quintas
  • 3. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ESO 1 What makes up a person? What kind of school subjects do you think are necessary for an integral personality? Everybody needs to develop the personality, the mind in different aspects (I draw a person on the board and around it label all the parts of a human or I use the photocopy**). 1. Which subjects do you think that develop your mind, your capacities, your language, your reasoning abilities? Maths, Language, Science... 2. Which subjects develop your physical condition, artistic, manual? Music, PE, Art... 3. Which subjects develop your emotions, feelings, values, moral principles, ethic ways of life? Religion, Philosophy... All of them help you to develop and improve your physical, social, moral, emotional and intellectual capacities. You need to learn different aspects of them to build your personality. Everybody must look for their life balance. Why is really important Religious Education in school? ✔ Because everybody needs to believe in somebody or something and everybody must know about the most important religions in the world and the main moral principles of these religions. ✔ Look at the map. ✔ Basic vocabulary I María Quintas
