1. THE DIRECTORS
LABEL
The Directors Label Series highlights the work of the filmmakers
who have helped to redefine music videos and filmmaking over the
last decade. Each volume in the Directors Label compiles music
videos, shorts, commercials, documentaries, as well as a variety of
exclusive features, never-before-seen rare footage, and
unreleased audio and video commentary. First released in 2003 by
Palm Pictures, the series was created by Spike jones, Chris
Cunningham, and Michel Gondry, the subjects of the first three
volumes. Four new volumes were released in 2005, this time
featuring Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn and
Stephane Sednaoui.
3. MARK ROMANEK
• While working with such artists as Johnny Cash, Audioslave,
Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nine Inch Nails, to name
but a few, Mark Romanek has directed many of the past
decade's most distinctive and iconic music videos. In 1997,
Romanek won the MTV Video Vanguard award, and later
directed the 2002 hit movie One Hour Photo, starring Robin
Williams.
• One of his notable videos was for the Nine Inch Nails song

multiple awards, including an MTV music video award for
Breakthrough Video and was nominated for a Grammy for

still be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

for the French rock band Oui Oui, in which he also served as
a drummer. The style of his videos for Oui Oui caught the
attention of music artist Bjork, who asked him to direct the
video for her song “Human Behaviour”. The callaboration
proved long-lasting, with Gondry directing a total of eight
music videos for Bjork.
9. JONATHAN GLAZER
• Glazer directed Jamiroquai’s best known music
video, “Virtual Insanity”. At the 1997 MTV Video
Music Awards in September 1997, it earned ten
nominations, winning four awards, including
“Breakthrough Video” and the “Best Video of the
Year”.
• The song also reached #3 on the UK Singles
Chart.
