2. Masthead
The masthead is used at the top of the
contents page and uses the same house
colour throughout the magazine. The
masthead is also written in bold in order to
stand out. The use of the masthead being
the same as what is seen on the front cover
it allows the audience to associate with the
brand and creates a positive and recognized
association.
Issue Date
The issue date gives the audience
information which will be needed if they
read majority of the issued magazines.
The issue date also shows that the
magazine is well organised creating a
positive vibe for the brand.
3. Main Image/Article
The main image which can be seen is a
wide shot/mid shot of a young girl with a
bus behind her. The model is using direct
address while pointing at the bus itself,
by doing this it makes the audience look
directly at the model then move across
her body line to look at the bus. The
model is also seen to have a relaxed
body language and a welcoming affect
due to the causality of the photo-
showing the informality but professional
side to the magazine. The mise-en-scene
which is seen within the image then
anchors the article which can be seen
underneath.
4. NME Index
The index which is seen within this magazine is
on the left hand side, conventionally used in this
way throughout many magazines. This allows the
NME audience to access content quicker by
choosing something they want to read quickly
and easily. NME have listed various interviews
stories and information within the list to allow
readers to find their interest, helping them
engage with the magazine. The listings also use
Sans Serif font which is typical of magazines as
this is a neutral font and does not have any
connotations. Eg- broadway font has a broadway
effect. The font is also seen in red and black; a
continuation of the use of colour throughout the
magazine demontrates tidiness throughout.
5. Page Numbers
The page numbers are added onto the end of each
listing, this is so the audience can clearly indicate
where they will find each article throughout the
magazine giving them more option and guidance.
This is highly appealing to the audience as they are
given the opportunity to read what they want to read
but also an insight into anything which they don’t.
Layout/ Rule Of Thirds
The layout of the magazine is seen to be very busy with
no empty space surrounding. The layout of the
contents page uses borders around pictures etc. By
doing this it makes the page look professional and well
organized- both will attract the audience. The borders
which are used around headings are sharp, very
blocked and cut off. This is likewise to the magazine
itself, promoting individuality and wanting to stand out
from the crowd- stereotypical of someone who would
read this magazine. The use of rule of thirds is also
used as part of the codes and conventions of the
magazine. The rule of thirds is always used in magazine
in order to decide where main images/writing should
be placed in order to attract the reader. This can be
seen as the main article is placed in the middle with the
6. Grab Quote
The grab quotes are used within the
contents page of NME in order to grab
the attention of the reader, the reason
for them being called ‘grab’. The
quotes are seen in bold which
immediately draw in the reader. NME
are clear to show what is in the
magazine, and use specific
stereotypical categories which the
reader would like. By doing this is
shows the magazine understanding
ogf their target audience creating a
positive effect to the audience as the
magazine shows the importance of
them.
