2. MAGNA CARTA
The Magna Carta was written for England in 1215.
Thelater versions excluded the most direct challenges
to the monarch's authority that had been present in
the 1215 charter. It was a type of rule of law because
it limited the King’s power.

3. GLORIOUS
REVOLUTION
There were three major battles in Ireland and serious
fighting in Scotland. William of the House of Orange
and his wife took over after the Glorious Revolution.
The Bill of Rights changed the power of Kings forever
and was a result of this revolution.

4. THE ENGLISH BILL OF
RIGHTS
The Bill of Rights was written in 1688. It borders the
powers of the government. It covers the freedom of
speech right and the right to trial by jury.

5. THE ENLIGHTENMENT
It was an intellectual movement in 18th Century
Europe. Made mainly to establish authoritative ethics,
aesthetics, and knowledge based on an "enlightened"
rationality. It was important because it provided a
framework for the American and French Revolutions
and the rise of capitalism and the birth of socialism.

7. JOHN LOCKE
John Locke was from Wrington, United Kingdom. He
was born on August 29, 1632 and died on October 28,
1704. The Natural rights are any right that exists by
virtue of natural law.

8. JEAN JACQUES
ROUSSEAU
Jean Jacques Rousseau is from Geneva Switzerland.
He was born on June 28, 1712 and died on July 2,
1778. The Social Contract is an agreement among the
members of a society to cooperate for social benefits.
The theories of a social contract became popular in
the 16th, 17th, and 18th century.

9. THOMAS JEFFERSON
Jefferson is from Shadwell, Virginia. He is most
famous for writing the first draft of the Declaration of
Independence. He changed the words from ‘property’
to ‘pursuit of happiness’ because Locke’s “Life,
Liberty, and Pursuit of Property was directed to
justice, but Jefferson went beyond that term to say
happiness because he wanted to consider all the rights
that were necessary to human beings.
