Welcome to the training module on The Solderless Connector from tyco electronics]
This training module will [introduce a solderless LED connector for the Cree XLamp LEDs].
Tyco Electronics' solderless LED socket, type CM enables solderless quick termination of the 1500 lumen output Cree XLamp® MP-L™ LED. It allows ample optical clearance for the 120 degree beam angle of the LED that requires directional optics. It also includes a snap-connect feature for the LEDIL Tyra series of reflective optics, which are offered in additional 18, 30 and 50 degree beam angles
This page shows applications of the Solderless LED connector, it can be used in channel signs, Emergency displays, Digital Signages, Architectural displays, street and stadium, commercial and residential lighting applications
The major benefits of the solderless connector is its secure attachment to a substrate using 3 standard screws or M3 screw. It is fast termination to Cree XLamp, MP-L LEDs, it has 6 line termination in both wire and board termination versions, it eliminates hand soldering.
This page gives the standards and specifications of the solderless connector, it is compliant with UL 1977/CSA C22.2 No 182.3 and UL8750.
The Solderless LED Socket, Type CM is a small, low profile socket that provides a quick and easy connection to the Cree XLamp® MP-L™ LED. The Cree XLamp MP-L LED can also be thermally epoxied directly to a heat sink
The Solderless LED Socket Type CM offers a solderless termination to the pads on the top of the socket and offers an ideal alternative to hand soldering wires onto very small pads spaced on 1.25 mm center lines. The board mount socket can then be used to connect the Cree XLamp MP-L LED to the PCB and thereby to the driver circuitry on the board.
The Solderless LED Socket, Type CM is offered in three versions. For conventional PCB mount applications, the Solderless LED Socket, Type CM offers the designer the ability to mount the LED directly to the PCB and connect to it without solder. The Cree XLamp MP-L LED employs three parallel strings of LEDs and therefore requires three circuits hence the need for 6 connections. Each LED circuit is nominally 25VDC at 150mA which is well within the 50VDC voltage rating of the AMP Mini CT connector.
This page shows the mechanical dimension of few solderless connectors
This page shows the performance characteristic of the solderless connector. It has operating current of 500mA, operating voltage of 30VDC, Dielectric withstanding voltage of 500VDC Copper alloy contact base material, Tin plated contact to AMP Mini CT or to PCB are materials used in composition.
