Entrepreneurship Empowerment Symposium - Session 02: The Time of Change – Time of Opportunities! by Hany Morcos, the Director of Government Partnership Programs & Technology Export, Microsoft Egypt
Thrilled to talk about the changes that are happening in the world of technologies and the opportunities it is bringing.
Each generation of computing brought benefits to customers in the areas of making money, saving money, or innovating.
Mainframe computing enabled large enterprises to streamline processing of customer data, allowing them to continue growing (make more money) while keeping the cost of paperwork processing down. The downside was that you had to already be operating on a large scale to realize an ROI on the purchase of mainframe systems.
The arrival of Personal Computing (PCs) in the early 80s democratized the processing power of mainframes and brought them within reach of nearly all businesses. This enabled any business to save time, innovate, and make more money.
Client / Server technologies further allowed collaboration inside companies allowing them to innovate faster.
The advent of widespread Internet adoption in the 90s democratized customer reach, integration, and collaboration on a large scale. Before the Internet, only large companies could afford to connect electronically with trading partners and customers. Now everyone could. The Internet wave enabled everyone to make money, save money, and innovate.
If the PC made computing available to all…and
the Internet likewise made massive customer connection available to all…then
The Cloud makes large scale computing resources available to all,
and provides any new start up significant abilities to disrupt established players without much up front investment.
The cloud will help businesses to make money, save money, and innovate quickly for those that embrace it.
