ur Metal treatment business has a proven track record in developing
speciality products geared to providing improved performance and
environment-friendliness. Today, the experience and cutting-edge kno-
wledge we have acquired of the technologies used in this field allow us to
develop new systems for new applications, such as fibre optics and drilling.
In addition to our range of products, our efforts are also focused on
developing in conjunction with our customers a global offer to match their
requirements. This is achieved by putting Rhodia’s technical teams and
know-how at their disposal to provide advice and to create new solutions
together.
This strategy is being built on a worldwide basis, with special emphasis in Asia
where we have set up Rhodia Nicca, a joint venture based in Japan.
Our company’s innovation strategy is threefold:
• Conduct ongoing research to improve our customers’ competitiveness.
For example, a substantial proportion of our Research & Development
work is targeted at speeding up the metal transformation process while at
the same time reducing wear and tear on cutting and shaping tools.
• Develop increasingly high-performance products.
Elaborate ingredients and formulated products that modify the surface of
the metal and improve the performance of the finished product.
This includes increasing the life-span of tyres, increasing corrosion
resistance and improving the sheen of stainless-steel wire.
• Develop a range of environmentally safe products.
For newly developed products, priority is given to choosing raw materials
and additives considered to be non-toxic for the environment.
For example, we have developed biodegradable, non-ecotoxic solutions
for metal-degreasing applications to replace the chlorinated solvents
currently in use.
