2. What is an e-portfolio?
It's a collection of works, in this case of audio
episodes, created and selected by a student.
3. Podomatic allows you to:
Upload already recorded material (either
audio or video) or to record it directly in the
website with the aid of a headset
(headphones and microphone)
Insert, alongside each episode entry, a page
that may include explanatios, links, videos,
files, images, links, etc.
4. Preliminary steps
Decide on what oral genres to work with.
Decide on their sequence and schedule dates of
delivery and assessment
Plan ahead the activities of support and ancillary
material necessary to produce the podcasts.
The description page can be polished as a work in
progress to develop SS’ composition skills.
5. Instructions to the Student
Once you have created a Podomatic account, click on Publish and
you will find, among others, possibilities:
Podcast, Minicast and Events.
Each one has easy-to follow templates to guide you through.
Basically, in order to post a new episode, you are asked to
1. Select media for your episode.
2. Enter a title and a description
3. Add an image
4. Choose a quality level, and
5. Publish!
6. Tips for Teachers
In order to collect and check your students'
pages, you need an RSS reader which
allows you to know when there are changes
in each one of them.
For that purpose, you need an aggregator of
content fed served by web feeds, such as
Feedly in http://www.feedly.com/
7. The Feedly RSS reader
If you have used Google Reader before, sign
in with a Google account login
(yourname@gmail.com) in order to export
your feeds to Feedly. Otherwise, you can use
any other e-address.
Once logged in, you only need to click on
"ADD A SUBSCRIPTION" where you paste
the URL of each one of your students. And
that's it!
