- My talk today is about the volunteer work I did in the last several years. It started about 4 years ago when I helped out at Sunday school, and I have always enjoyed my time with children. Not naturally easy for me, but working with children gives me a different set of satisfaction. I will tell you more as I go.
- “What do I learn from these activities?” I owe myself a retrospective and owe you a way to get to know a little more about me.
- It was October 2005. My 4th time as a Sunday school teacher. Apparently we were lacking volunteer teachers that day. I was usually a teacher helper in the 2nd grade, but that day I was reassigned as a leader for the 3rd grade class. I came into the class very nervous.

- McCormick 1st day: planned for the project in much detail. But no supplies available. PANIC!
- Kids want to and are excited to try everything. Oil + water experiment
- Example: robots from recycle materials
- Both boys and girls made the paper flowers for their mom in celebration of Mother’s Day.

- STUDENTS as HELPERS: distributing materials, leading group to line up, etc.
- Delegate to Volunteers Encourage them to lead. Some bring talents that are good to share with the kids, or other teachers.

- Once in a while, NOISY BOYS BECAME QUIET … WHAT HAPPENS?
- SKIT, ACT OUT I have tried different kinds of projects. One kind is where you ask the students to actively participate in an activity, such as skits. Skits sounds exciting to us: we give them a situation from their day-to-day lives, and they can act out whatever they want. This works really well to students who are outspoken, confident, and especially the boys :D . . . .
- SHY Most of the girls (and a few boys) would just stand up in front of the class, did not move, did not say a thing. They were too shy! The quiet girls would approach me in person and tell me of her work.

Maxwell We should seize every opportunity to give encouragement. Encouragement is oxygen to the soul.
- HAVE FUN
- Working with these children were exhausting. Drained my time and energy. But I learned a lot, more than what I covered here. Plus I got some relaxation time in the weekend. It is a journey worth exploring. And that is my story.
